Message from the President:

Greetings NTC/HFES Members and Associates!

The executive committee would like to encourage you to help in the revitalization of our chapter.  There is tremendous talent, expertise and resources in the HFE field in North Texas, talent that can inspire and motivate self and others to achieve broader skills and knowledge.  By networking with this amazing pool of professionals we can grow ever stronger as individuals and as a collective.

With members covering most business sectors representing national and global organizations, we can learn so much from each other.  Yes, time is precious and some members travel extensively.  But the value of networking and tapping into our vault of cutting-edge professionals is worth the small time commitment.  Reach into this vault or make deposits by sharing your knowledge, inspiring others, or driving excellence in our chapter.  Only through active participation can this happen.

So mark your calendars and attend our blend of social and learning events.  Be involved and help rekindle our chapter.
Best Regards,

Vicki Missar,

HFES North Texas Chapter President

2004 Chapter Activities
The North Texas Chapter of HFES co-hosted the seventh annual “Meeting of the Minds” with the Texas Chapter of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas.  The event included three speakers and a tour of the museum plus the first IDSA Texas Chapter “Fight Club” where two designers took extreme opposing viewpoints and debated the merits and pitfalls of consumerism with the audience joining in the debate.  Christina Wasson, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of North Texas gave a talk on how ethnography is used to assess true user needs.  Jack Bacon, Ph.D., Systems Integration Engineer at the NASA Johnson Space Center, gave a very inspiring lecture on cognitive human factors and a second lecture on current activities at NASA.  The session closed with Frank Ford, a local actor, improvisational comedian and former industrial designer giving a very entertaining talk on how comedy improvisation techniques can be used as ideation tools for collective brainstorming.
