A Fan Club Interview
As the song goes, "There are many things I wonder..." Here on Dot's web site, we receive alot of questions about the Shaggs... there are so many things people want to know about the band, about the girls, their family and community.. Certainly, each fan club member has several questions they would like to ask about the Shaggs. Because we have access to Dot (through the fan club and web site) - why not ask her?
This past Spring, we collected questions from the fan club members, submitted the questions to Dot, and she replied in her own words. The questions and answers are published below - we have created an interview... Sort of.
These were the guidelines:
| Concern | Requirement |
| How many questions can I ask? | Limiting this to 1 question per fan club membership. |
| What if I am not a fan club member? Can I submit a question? | Anyone who joins the fan club before Jan 31, 2004 is eligible. Only current members of the fan club are eligible. It's a one year membership, if you thinks yours may have expired, just drop me an email. |
| Can I ask her ANYTHING? | I know that Dot receives many requests for interviews, guest appearances and recording offers. Please don't ask for this. Obviously, personal information is not allowable (phone numbers, etc). |
| Will she write me back, a whole page? | Please phrase your question so that Dot can answer in a sentence or two. (She is going to write out the replies by hand and I don't want to make it a burden for her). Let's make it easy for her to reply, instead of making it alot of trouble, and maybe we can do this again in the future. |
| How do I submit my question? | Please mail your question on a 3X5 index card, in your own handwriting. Be sure you sign your name on the card so it can be easily read. leave one side of the card comopletely blank. |
| Is there an official form or will the fan club send me the materials? | No, you'll have to buy your own 3X5 card. That's it. No form. |
| Are you charging money for this? | No, this is free, as a courtesy to Dot's fans. If you want to really help out, you can send in a self addressed stamped envelope. That would be helpful. But not required. |
| How does this adventure end? | After Dot answers your questions, your index card will be mailed to you. It will be Dot's answer, in her handwriting - a one of a kind SHAGGS souvenir. And, like I said, we'll publish everyone's questions and answers right here on Dot's web page. |
| What is the deadline? | Make sure we have received your card before Jan 31, 2004. |
Here is the interview!
| Question from | Question | Answer |
| Joe B. | Have you heard the Sahggs tribute album, Better Than The Beatles and if so, do you have a particular favorite track on it? (I think Bauer's remake of "We have a Savior" is lovely.) |
Yes, I have a copy. I would have to say the one I like the best would be "Mongel, My Cutie". Also, "Who Are Parents by Danielson". I liked "You're something special to me" by the Furtips. God Bless You, Dot |
| Andy E. |
Dear Dot, What is your all-time favorite song? |
The End Of The World written by Skeeter Davis; performed by Peter Noone Herman's Hermits. God Bless You, Dot |
| Pea H. |
Hi Dot! What's your favorite color, and why? |
Sky Blue has always been my favorite color. Why? Because it's beautiful. God Bless Youu, Dot |
| Web pg | What was the main thing you learned from your father about living, what was the main thing you learned from your mother? | The main thing I learned from my father was "never give up" and "follow your dream". From my mom, "treat others as you would like to be treated" and "be the best that you can be." |
| Web pg | Was your father's idea (home school and emphasis on learning and making music) a good idea or did it cause more trouble than benefit? Would this sort of lifestyle work in today's culture? | At the time, at first, I didn't like the idea of home-schooling. But, it did turn out to be a good idea. Homeschooling in today's culture would be even more popular than way back when. |
| Web pg | Do you still get ideas for songs and what was the most recent one about? |
I still get ideas for lyrics for songs. Don't do much with the music part. Right at the moment - I have started a song about Pain inspired from knee pain but will probably be turned into a love song. I wrote lyrics to a sing titled, "Banana Bike" inspired from Helen a few years ago. That's about it at the moment. God Bless You, -Dot |
