email to Pakistan

I am guessing you have now come home from another hectic day.

Removing your shoes with a sigh, clearing your head.

Perhaps, even, soaking your feet while you smoke clove cigarettes.

It is a cold, wet morning here. I woke up early. I am reading poetry.

Now I am making some tea, and I will drink it as I continue to read.

But it will also be a busy day. My wife returns tomorrow afternoon

after being gone more than a week.

That means it is time for me to clean the house--make it very clean,

so she will walk into a home that she recognizes as a place of comfort,

not as a disappointment at the end of a tiring journey.

And there are other things I must do.

But right now I am making tea. Reading poetry. Writing a message to Pakistan.

Are you there? If you are, you must be exhausted.

If you are not, then of course you are still too busy for email.
