Six Aspects of This Morning

1.

I bought my love
a miniature pewter monkey--
decades later,

the housecat whacks it to the floor.

2.

The cello bow
swings low

and its vibrato curls in my stomach.

3.

Groggy and alone
I find myself dancing,
shaking my gangly arms,
squawking in laughter and despair.

4.

My boyhood friend

dyed himself green

with chemicals one day.

5.

Hemorrhaging,
the brain

finally
stopped

thinking and smiled.

6.

The dust is human dander--
it floats in the sunlit room

like an astronaut.
