Your HP5970 is VALUABLE, Making it as good as a new mass spectrometer for a fraction of the price of a new instrument is possible. Complete refurbishing includes turbo pump and turbo controller exchange, computer and data system upgrade.

This electrometer was developed to improve the sensitivity and the dynamic of the MS. Figure 3 shows that by increasing the gain to 100 we were able to lower the multiplier voltage to 1600 ( compare Figure 2). Figure 4 shows that bringing back the multiplier voltage to 2800, mass 614 increased by 100 ( 5 Volt). One can see that the noise level remain low. Of course with those settings the calibration of the instrument failed, all the reference peaks but 614 are saturated. The only purpose of this experiment is to demonstrate the sensitivity increase. Those calibration reports have been printed after Auto-tune was performed with MStation.
