FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New possibilities for old HP mass spectrometersData acquisition system promises increased sensitivity and bandwidth and the ability to perform multiple experiments, breathing new life into old equipment29 April 2002 Editor's note: Readers of the free Laboratorytalk weekly email newsletter would have read this news the week it was announced. Click here to request to be added to the circulation. The MStation data acquisition system from Acquisition Solutions k brings new possibilities to the users of old HP mass spectrometers 5970, GCD, 5971, 5972, 5973. The replacement of the SmartCard allowed the signal path to be changed. The fast conversion time of the replacement electrometer can be used for either faster scan speed or signal averaging. A special configuration of the ADC is used to increase the dynamic of the measure when performing SIM. MStation is designed to be fully independent of the PC. The acquisition software will not slow down or stop even in the case of a PC crash. MStation uses a large memory buffer to store the data to ensure no delay while scanning the mass spectrometer. At full acquisition speed the system can record profile spectra over the entire mass range without slowing down. The increased bandwidth allows the scanning of spectra with a resolution of 20 points / mass. The ability to perform both SIM and scan during the course of an analysis makes the detection of semi-volatiles, Pesticides, etc, an easier task.
