This is 1968 dearie..not 1948!
Thank you Dagmar!
Thank you for giving me glimpses into a world I've always wished I could be
a part of.
Of course, on Monday April 29th 1968, I was only two years of
age.
A flower toddler at best. Didn't stop me from falling in love with
Hair though.

I stumbled onto your Hair page and loved it. I'm 35 and Hair was introduced
to me
by my parents back in 1969 when they saw the Los Angeles version.
They
bought the soundtrack and I have listened to it many times.
It was my intro
to Broadway and Rock. I love the photos.
Any chance you may publish a book
of your Hair collection?
I bet you would find fans.
Any more photos coming
soon to your page?

Dagmar! I just got your email 2 seconds ago and I know who that woman is!!!!
I remember her vividly, from the second night that she saw the show. As soon
as we came out for the preshow to mingle in the audience she said "Hi
Berger......Again!" And we chatted with her briefly.
Do you have Marion's email? I'd love to send her a note,
her letter made all of us so happy we were all almost in tears!!!!!!!

HAIR: European Tour
When I was 7 my parents went to see the musical Hair in Eindhoven (1971) and were
completely knocked down by it. Not that it changed their lives, but it opened their eyes
to a different kind of living and to people who dare to be different...
My sister and I danced and sang a lot to the music of the LP they bought after that performance.
Together we could step into a completely different
world, by dressing up and pretend we were the hippies we could never really
be (being born too late....)
Many years later we went to see the movie, but it was a bit disappointing in
the sense that it was not like we had imagined it to be while dancing and
singing to the music of the musical...
So when I went to see the (30th anniversary production 1968-1998, European
Tour) show two days ago it felt like coming home. This was everything I
imagined then.... and even more. All the songs, all the moves, it felt like
I had played those a thousand times and was one of the group. But there I
was sitting on the balcony all dressed up for the
theater, like I am these days: wife, mother of two, house'slave', mediocrity
ruling....
So I decided to go once more, although my friends (and husband, who enjoyed
the show very much on tuesday...) said I was being foolish, hung up on a
dream and should act like a normal person.... And there I was sitting in the
second row from the front, dressed in my coolest dress (which Woof and
Berger noticed immediately), barefooted and nothing in my mind than beads,
flowers, freedom and happiness... and it was even more beautiful than the
day before.... it was just perfect!
Well, to make a long story (what could go on and on, I'm afraid) short and
get to the point:
I just want to thank Berger, Claude, Sheila, Woof, Dionne, Jeannie and all
the rest of the group for taking me on the finest 'trip' I've had for years
and tell them their dreams, ideas, and (unfortunatly) fights are still very
real these days...
And thank Michael, Nik, Sarah, Ben, Sabrina and Vannessa and all the rest of
the cast for the wonderful show... I've never experienced anything similar
ever !!!! Thanx a lot, you're all a bunch of (professional) peaches....
...and yes (although my life won't change either), I'll tell my kids: be
free, no guilt, be whatever you want to be, do whatever you want to do, just
as long as you don't hurt anybody..... and remember kids, I'm your
friend....
with love

My HAIR list is arranged by name, contact, city or cities where they did the
show
and characters they played (oh and zodiac sign if known).
The original
cast are noted and so are those who have passed away.
When it is complete (as
complete as I can get it) I will see that you receive a copy.
You may have
information on people that I only have a name for. I appreciate your help.
I
have looked at your Broadway HAIR photos so many times during the years.
Now
I am getting to know the artist who took them.

I love your photos.
I'm
really good friends with Jim Rado,

but that play has
influenced my life in many major ways.

HÄR!!!
Here's a page you might wanna have a look at.
It's the review in the
local Varberg newspaper, with pictures and everything.
It's in Swedish, but the pictures are in universal language!!
Det här var ju lysande!
You might be wondering about the outlook of the musical.
We've tried to
make it easier for the Swedish audience to understand.
It became a great sucess!!!! Everybody thought that it was one of the
best musicals that we've ever staged!!! We had full houses every
performance and people standing in lines outside the theatre to get
hold of possible tickets from people who got stuck in the snow storm that
we had yesterday.
The guests that we had invited (important people who decide if we can
go on) thought that it was really great!!! That probably means that we
can go on for more years.
The newspaper critics were thrilled and we got good reviews!
I'm very excited!!!!!

want a Swede in your HAIR?
I have been in touch with this 23 year old, Torbjörn Svahn,
who lives in a small town called Varberg, in Sweden.
He's studying to become a teacher in mathematics and nature-science...
but, here it comes:
he is just now staging HAIR and it's opening on Feb 5th, tomorrow!!
Torbjörn's credits in
musical theatre start with West Side Story (at age 16),
and he has since played Simon Zealotes in "J.C.S";
Cookie in "Return to the forbidden Planet" by Bob Carlton,
the Conductor for the orchestra in "Fame";
"Cabaret", "Guys and Dolls"...
all under musical director John M. Smith from London.
He then joined forces with two others who had been in "J.C.S" with him
and they staged it together as a sort of "warm-up".
"It was appreciated and we practically sold out" he writes.
Now he's the only one left of the team, and is doing his own HAIR - so to speak!
and would not mind travelling around the globe for a while, to act in other HAIR productions.

This is Darcy Gamet, 27 Year-old daughter of Steven B. Gamet.
Now he's old and beautiful. He used to get drunk and perform HAIR
in our living room. I really feel I know HAIR from him.
And when I'm at the reunion in NYC, I hope to see all of them drunk and performing HAIR again!!!!

Hi there,
What wonderful images you have captured on film!
I am 30, and have never seen the stage production (though I suffered
through half of the motion picture) - but when I was a child,
I used to listen to my father's soundtrack. I fell in love with the songs,
the spirit and the lyrics of the music. I believe it shaped me
to be the somewhat jaded, anti-authoritarian I am today.
I stumbled upon your website while looking for information on Shelley
Plimpton, and wanted to share with you my envy and my appreciation of your interactions with that production.
Best wishes to you,
Cristina (Cristina.Comer@turner.com)

Hello!
My name is Jeanie Davis. I am a 46 year old
Photojournalism/Printing/Spanish major
at Texas A&M University - Commerce, Texas.
Last semester I took a class on Viet Nam Era Music, Literature and Movies.
I wrote one of my papers on
the musical "Hair", which is where I learned about you.
I have only seen the work you have on the internet, and I like it very much.
I am anxiously awaiting your book, if you find a publisher,
as I would like to know more about the work you do and have done.
I would enjoy anything you have to share!
Please don't think I am some strange person who could possibly stalk you or anything.
I am just a mother/grandmother who has raised her family
and is just now discovering her loves and who the person is
who lives inside her.
So, these are my comments/praises. I hope to hear from you, if you ever have time.
I am just now beginning to collect information to do my honors thesis on the
musical,
but I would like to know more about you and your work.

HAiR - the universe - everything
Thank you for being so amazing.
My experience with all the original tribe members has been so moving.
I can't think of another show that would still be so inspiring to performers,
directors, musicians and crew (and photographers!) 30 years after they did it.
You all, and Dagmar you specifically, have made HAiR more than just a "cool show"
you've made it part of you, and we can only hope to emulate that love and
commitment!
By the way, my cast loved your shots!

I do owe you thanks whether you realize it or not. Since logging on to your site

Those who love peace and are willing to sacrifice for it.
Thank you Berger, Claude, Dionne, Hud, Sheila, Jeannie and Woof.
And Crissy. Hope you get the two dollars back.
Thanks most of all to all of you here in our world-wide cyber-tribe.
Thirty years ago last night, four of us conspired to elude the security
check at the Biltmore, and spent the night in a sacred, stoned holy vigil.
We lit candles, sang songs, and contemplated the event to come.
It was Steve Curry, Shelly Plimpton, Steve Gamet and myself.
But it could have been Shannon, Thomas King, Elisa or Revital & Merav Hube in Israel.
Let's elude the authorities again for a moment and glow.
I celebrate this day with all of you who love HAIR and wish we could dance
around a big bonfire on the beach. Then take all our clothes off and run
into the surf for a moonight swim.

Hi from Sally Eaton
Hi, Dagmar!
Funny I just happened to stumble on your website --
I was looking for more data on the 30th Birthday gala/bash.
Wow, what a surprise -- a very lovely web page.
Especially the "in Memoriam" section.
HAIR (and really just life in the 60's) was very rough on us all, wasn't it?
Talk about a show that ate actors...
I still look back on those chaotic years with a mixture of nostalgia and regret.
Me, I've very much alive, but living quietly.
Just a happily married, middle-class geek.
I've been into computers since the early 80's, watching the scene evolve.
If you wish, email me sometime: seaton@quicklink.com.
Love, Sally

Dear Dagmar:
It has been a long time, but hopefully you still remember me-
Erick Ragni, Gerome Ragni's son. I have been trying to locate you
over the past year, but I have had no luck.
It was a great surprise to find your web page, and hopefully track down
what little memoribilia I have from my father and I during the Hair period.
He mentioned how diligently you followed and recorded the production,
and I would be very interested in knowing what negatives remain
from both the production itself and of he and I.
I would love to have a more complete record of that time for my new family to share in.
I would love to find some photos of Jim Rado, and possibly my mother Stephanie, and Earl Scott.
I cant tell you how exciting it is to possibly locate an intact archive-
my father was not the best collector of memoribilia.
As for me, I am an architect presently living in Houston Texas.
I studied in Los Angeles, and was brought to texas for a teaching job,
since then I have found a perfect partner and we plan to marry in late October
(please consider yourself invited).
I would love to hear back from you,
I hope you are well,

Dear Dagmar
Tracy at Stanford told me to get ahold of you, she thought you
could help me.
Back in 1970 (I think), my mother met Ronnie Dyson in New
York.
She was there receiving cancer treatment. They became friends,
and he invited her to a concert they gave in Detroit. I remember going,
she spent her time back stage while we watched the show.We were the only
white people there. Shortly thereafter she died at the age of 33,
but she made me promise to someday tell him what it meant to her.
I never could get anywhere until I got this computer, and now its too late,
but I would like his family to know this if there is any way for me to do it.
Can you help me at all? My mother's name was Sally Koepke.
Thank You,
Amy Helsel (helsel@netonecom.net)

I greatly appreciate your help.

regaled the audience with tales of HAIR. Afterwards we spent some quality time
with her backstage.
I encourage everyone to catch Melba's act when it comes to your town.

He lives in the basement, in Hoboken, of the building where HAIR was
