| In addition
to Gray-banded Kings, we enjoy other species of Lampropeltis,
particularly Milksnakes and Mountain Kingsnakes. In the future, we
also expect to be able to offer one of my (Troy's) childhood favorites -
the woodland (faded pattern) morph of the Prairie Kingsnake. Of
the milksnakes, we breed a few selected localities. Our California
Mt Kingsnake group is now limited to San Jacinto Mts locale
animals. While we have specimens of Arizona Mt Kings from 3
localities, we will only likely produce offspring from one locality for
the foreseeable future. Click on the thumbnails for larger images
of our breeders. |
Pale Milksnakes - (Cherry
Co, NB, locale) - we usually produce a single clutch of these lovely
little milksnakes annually. They are vividly patterned
little milksnakes that readily accept live pinky mice, even as
hatchlings. Our breeders compare well with anyone's, and our
female is one of the most brightly colored pale milks that I've seen
anywhere - in person or in photos. Many of our offspring resemble
her in coloration.
Offspring are priced from $100-150
each - exceptional specimens may be more |

Abilene Milksnakes - (Shackelford
Co, TX) - these milks are representatives of a very interesting
population. This population is apparently isolated from other
Texas milksnakes, and consequently shows a wide range of variation,
presumably from genetic drift. I have seen specimens from this
location with as few as 11 red bands and others with bands numbering
over 20. Some extremely bright red snakes also can be found in
this population. The subspecific designation of these snakes is
open to interpretation - my hypothesis is that they are celaenops
x gentilis intergrades (leaning closer to celaenops).

$100 each - exceptional specimens may be more |

Barnhart Milksnakes - (Crockett
and Irion Co, TX) - Another interesting and unique population of
milksnakes from western Texas, this population also shows a wide range
of variation, although not so wide a range as is seen in the Abilene
area. As with the above locale animals, the subspecific
designation of these snakes open to question - my hypothesis is that
they are celaenops with just a bit of influence from annulata.
However, they reach sexual maturity at lengths less than 20", so
any annulata influence is slight.

$75 each - exceptional specimens may be more |

River Road Milksnakes - (Presidio
County, TX) - this locale is well known for exceptionally bright colored
milksnakes, with vivid red and extremely clean white. These are
pure celaenops, and are very striking animals. We will
possibly produce one clutch.

$100 each - exceptional specimens may be more

San Jacinto Mt Kings - the
California Mt Kings from the San Jacinto Mts are currently classified as
parvirubra (although mtDNA evidence suggest that the
"classic" subspecific designations in zonata are
meaningless). San Jacinto Mt Kings typically have much less black
than other populations of parvirubra. Our specimens come
from Dark Canyon, Thomas Mt, and Apple Canyon. Producing these
little gems has proved problematic - even though we have 3 females, last
year we only produced one hatchling. We have hopes for better
production this year.

Huachuca Mt Kings - the
Arizona Mt Kings from the Huachuca Mts are often referred to by the
invalid subspecific name woodini. They are
characterized by a lower band count than other populations of pyromelana,
and tend to have reduced black crossovers (although this trait does not
apply to all individuals from this area). All populations of pyromelana
from the mountain ranges of southeastern Arizona do have reduced
black on the sides when compared to populations from central and
northern Arizona. We have one female of breeding size, which is
currently out on breeding loan.

Hybrid Kings - many
species of kingsnakes will hybridize with one another, particularly the
various forms of the mountain, Mexican, and gray-banded kings. We
have 2 male hybrids which are zonata x alterna, which we
produced several years ago by crossing a zonata multicincta x an alterna.
We currently have no adult female hybrid, but may cross one of these
males with either a female zonata or a female alterna.
Offspring are priced from $50-100
each - exceptional specimens may be more |
