Hello, friends.

Until our new web site is fully functioning, we're limping along with this one. Please forgive our dust.

Our most exciting news is that on December 16 and 17 ArtSpirit will be offering you a chance to put the holidays into perspective. It is entitled "Today Marks the Beginning."

One of our artists, Karen Blessen, made a trip with Save-the-Children to Mozambique and Malawi last spring to find out for herself, through the eyes of an artist, what the HIV/AIDS situation is there and if Save-the-Children is doing good work. It is a horrific situation, she found out, with hospitals full of AIDS patients who only have aspirin to help them cope with their disease. Karen came back determined to do her best to help this agency save a village. Her report was published in The Dallas Morning News in May 2002. It was riveting and compelling. We want to share this story with you because we want to save a village, too.

To that end we asked another ArtSpirit member, Jeffrey Cranor, to turn Karen's memoires into a performing arts piece, "Today Marks the Beginning." On December 16 and 17, from 7-9 PM ArtSpirit will present this work with the help of director Bobbi Masters, Ugandan drummers, dancers, actors. We hope to raise $20,000 because we believe that Christmas comes to bring light into our darkness. This God-light illumines our own path as we make decisions that affect others. Our hearts become lighter, and comfort and joy takes on a global perspective when we join together and save a village.

The Rotunda Theater is in the basement of First United Methodist Church, 1928 Ross Avenue. Please park for free in the lot on Harwood, cross the street and enter through the glass doors. Go downstairs. It will be interactive, informative, and enlivening. It will be a great way to celebrate Christmas.

We'll be waiting for you. Today may be the beginning you have been yearning for.
