Benchmarking - American Gas Association
External Corporate Communications

The American Gas Association (AGA) will sponsor a benchmarking study in the area of External Corporate Communications.

Study topics include:
  • Measures and key process indicators - including how companies measure success, specific areas of success achieved and communications standards and systems;

  • Policies and procedures - including a focus on procedures in the area of crisis communications and confidentiality;

  • Strategies - including coordination of regional and corporate/national efforts, determining key messages, segmenting messages to different audiences, community relations, and messages from the chairman/president; and

  • Technology - including building and maintaining databases, electronic libraries, internet and intranet issues, and educating the target audience about technology/methodologies.

AGA Study Highlights:
  • A kickoff meeting with participants will be held on April 29, 1998 in Las Vegas, in conjunction with AGA's Annual Marketing and Communications Conference.

  • Participants will complete a survey and will be interviewed by phone.

  • Participants will be invited to three to five site visits to best practices companies, and to a final report readout/discussion session.

  • All Benchmarking data will be maintained confidential. No specific data will ever be linked to a participant in the study.

  • Each participant will pay $3,000 to participate in the study.
