Visiting Ghana Any trip has its surprises. Visiting Ghana was no exception. It was unbelievable to see how kind, friendly, and courteous people are. This is in spite of their difficult living conditions. You can walk in the market, in the middle of night, in absolute darkness, and be sure that no one will bother you (imagine walking alone in the middle of Manhattan when there is a blackout!) In Ghana, as you walk in streets, people say hi to you, kids greet you by saying "hello oborni (Whiteman)"; teenagers come to you and ask you where you are from...you get a sense of being alive, being a part of a kind society which accepts you in spite of your apparent differences. Somehow you start re-thinking about the western definition of the so-called civil society! Ghana is full of beautiful things. The ocean, the cocoa trees, the wilderness, and the sun set are all magnificent. But its real beauty is in its people and their kindness, typical to many developing societies. If you decide to go to Ghana, don't forget saying hi to strangers, talk to people; you will be amazed how much they can teach you...... |
