Global Education Forum @ UTD
April-2001
As the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank prepare to meet
in Quebec City, Canada, in April of 2001, SLC @ UTD is planning to arrange
a Public Forum on the campus to discuss social issues. The objective of
this forum is to promote social awareness among the students and the community
and promote an educational environment which is subject to open discussion.
The following are some of the suggested forum topics:
-
Why state workers need a pay raise?
-
Impacts of Globalization on domestic workers and workers in the third word
countries,
-
Labor rights and the right to organize,
-
Unions and their political impacts,
-
Immigration laws and rights of immigrants,
-
University accountability: Demanding more from your money,
-
Alternative media,
-
Environmental laws,
-
Racism in America,
-
Privatization (including health insurance, prisons and etc.),
-
Gender and Sexuality
-
Criminal Justice system: death penalty and drug war,
-
Volunteer out reach,
-
Interfaith discussion,
-

-

and more.....
We invite all the progressive organizations and activists to plan to participate
in this forum and introduce their own topic of interest. We highly encourage
other student organizations at UTD and other campuses to contact us and
help us with arranging the forum. This is an excellent educational opportunity
for everyone.
