The family of birds called Weavers (Ploceidae) is a large family of birds with over 117 members.They are Old World Tropical Birds. With most coming from Africa and a few India and a few coming from Sumatra and Java. There are populations that have established themselves in other countries as well like Porte Rico and The U.S.A..There diet seems to be mainly a seed filled diet except during breeding season when especially the females with consume large amounts of insects and small invertebrates as well. Breeding habits a varied as some are gregarious, and some species breed colonials, while others polygynous or even brood-parasites; nests often extremely large and intricate; normally they lay 2-8 eggs; biparental care in the monogamous species. males are often more colorful than females and even go thought a color change during the year will the onset of breeding season. |
