TUITION AND FEES
The calendar
year is divided into four quarters: Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer. Each quarter
will consist of ten (10) private lessons or twenty (20) private lessons if your
child has lessons twice each week. Tuition is due in advance of each quarter
or in three (3) monthly installments (see separate brochure for current rates
and dates).
What does tuition cover?
STUDENT ACTIVITIES
All students are enrolled student members of the Texas Music Teachers Association and are expected to take the yearly theory examination given by the Mid-Cities Music Teachers Association. This examination is given in November and again in February. There are many opportunities for recitals, festivals, and competitions for the prepared student. A schedule of all these events will be available at the beginning of each quarter.
AWARDS
An Award Recital will be held in May each year. Certificates, medals and trophies which students have earned during the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters will be awarded at this time. The Bobbie Badger Music Studio gives trophies based on points students have earned through their participation in the activities listed on the Events Calendar.
EXTRA LESSONS and MISSED LESSONS
Any time, whether it be private, group, ensemble or musicianship, regular schedule, or additional schedule set up by the teacher, is considered to be lesson time. There may be times when a student will be asked to come into the studio during another student's regularly scheduled lesson time. This is considered to be lesson time for each student. If an additional instruction fee is to be charged, it will be agreed upon between the teacher and parent before the extra lesson. An extra lesson may be considered a credit toward a scheduled lesson missed by the teacher before or after the extra lesson. Lessons missed by the teacher will be rescheduled or a credit given towards tuition. Lessons missed by the student will not be made up unless rescheduling can be arranged by trading lesson times with another student. It is the student's responsibility to inform the teacher of any "swapped" lessons.
TERMINATION OF LESSONS
Tuition is based on a completed quarter. Each student who registers for lessons makes a commitment for the entire quarter. Thus, termination of lessons is appropriate only at the end of the quarter. If lessons are terminated before the end of a quarter for reasons other than a family emergency the student will not be accepted for enrollment at the Bobbie Badger Music Studio at a later date. The remainder of the current quarter will be pro rated in the following manner: All lessons received (including missed lessons) at the termination will be charged to you on a per lesson basis as outlined in tuition brochure. There will also be a cancellation fee. The cancellation fee may be waived if at least a one-month notice of termination of lessons is given or if the termination is due to a family emergency. Students terminating lessons at the end of a quarter and not enrolling in the next quarter will be allowed to enroll in a later quarter if an opening is available.
THE STUDENT
Practice = repetitious drill to develop a skill
Set a regular time to practice and follow the schedule. Fill in your practice sheets and finish your assignments. Be on time and bring all your books and music. Pick one day a week for a piano VACATION.
THE PARENT
Parental support is necessary for your child's musical growth. Show an interest and enthusiasm for your child's musical accomplishments. Ask your child to play for you. Comment on how much you enjoy your child's music. Make sure your child has a good instrument that is kept in tune. Place your piano in a location away from distractions (TV, computer, telephone, etc.) so that your child can enjoy playing the piano without interruption. Provide a stool if your child's feet cannot touch the ground. Provide adequate lighting. Young students need help with their practice. Parents of students in grades 1-3 are asked to attend their child's lessons. Parents of older students are encouraged to attend lessons.
THE TEACHER
The teacher has the responsibility to the student to provide a positive atmosphere for learning. Definite goals will be established for each student. The teacher will continue to further her teaching skills by belonging to professional organizations, attending workshops and educational programs, reading professional publications, and engaging in other activities leading to professional growth.
CONFERENCES
The parent-teacher relationship is very important. Please feel free to schedule either a phone or face to face conference at any time. Please do not interrupt another student's lesson to ask me questions.
