Goldrush

New! Goldrush CDs! See bottom of this page.

Around 1973, it was my pleasure to play with this group. We played at a Straw Hat pizza parlor on San Antonio Road on the border between Palo Alto and Mountain View, California on Friday nights for over a year. We also played Saturday nights at a Straw Hat in Santa Cruz for the better part of a year. And we played various concerts, weddings, radio shows and the like.

The original Goldrush consisted of Rolfe Wyer, myself, Ray Bierl, Bob Bigelow and Derek Krogh.

Yeah, I know. This is not Goldrush. It’s Touch of Grass. Paul Siese was the banjo player, and it was my second chance to work with him. The first was in Goldrush. He filled in when Derek Krogh left.

The final Goldrush lineup was Ray Bierl, Hoyle Osborne, Bob Bigelow, myself and Larry Blom.

Ray Bierl and Hoyle Osborne have their own web sites. Have a look, and buy their albums. I recommend them highly.

I have put together three Compact Discs from my tapes of Goldrush. I don’t imagine there are many Goldrush fans left out there. If you were one, please contact me through the e-mail link on my home page for further information.

I used VHS HI-FI STEREO in the EXTENDED PLAY mode to archive the original tapes. This mode allows up to eight hours of material to be recorded with excellent audio noise and frequency response characteristics.  These tapes play back without problems on the machines on which they were recorded. However, I have encountered occasional tracking problems when playing them back on other machines. This tape was recorded and played back on a Sony Model SLV- 798HF machine. Timings refer to my archive tapes.

The sessions from Paul’s Saloon and the pizza parlors were recorded on an Ampex Model 860 dual capstan reel to reel recorder. Unfortunately, I used the mikes that came with the machine. Live and learn……..
