CFIDS/Fibromyalgia Toolkit
Introduction
This book offers a message of hope to people with
CFIDS (Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome) and
fibromyalgia. Even though you have an illness for which there is so far
no cure, there are many things you can do to improve your quality of
life. Through reading this book and practicing the techniques you find
here, you can take an active role in improving your well-being. You will
learn tools for reducing symptoms, and strategies for creating a more
stable and predictable life.
This book offers a kind of treatment for CFIDS and
fibromyalgia, but one that differs from other treatments you may have
tried. In contrast to ones you receive from others, this one you
administer to yourself. This self-help approach is based on the
assumption that you can change the effects of the illness and even its
course through your efforts. The book is intended to be a manual for
personal change, offering you ideas to help you understand your illness
better as well as tools to improve your quality of life.
This book was written as a companion to the
CFIDS/Fibromyalgia Self-Help course, a practical, solution-oriented
discussion group that addresses problems common to coping with the two
illnesses. If you are reading the book as part of the course, welcome to
our program. If you are not in a class, I hope you find the book useful
in your efforts to manage your illness.
