Press Release,

TREC considering
changes to the inspection Standards of Practice.
The Texas Real Estate Commission
(TREC) is the governing agency for home inspectors in Texas. Changes to the Inspection
Standards are being discussed. The changes establish a precedent in the United
States for inspecting a home to the latest code. That is, the inspector will be
comparing a preexisting home to the latest code. There is no such thing as
"grand fathered". This controversial proposal is sure to invoke a few
arguments. Inspectors in the United States have always disclaimed code
inspections. If the change passes it may result in an over developed product for
the consumer in addition to a price increase. A summary of the changes can be
seen at the TREC
web site. If the changes are approved they could be implemented sometime in
the year 2000. Stay tuned!
