Asada Hiroshi 麻田浩, 1931-1997.

AsadaHiroshi_photo (20K) Hiroshi Asada was born in a family of Japanese-style (nihonga) painters. His father was Benji Asada, also known as a woodblock maker, his older brother was Takashi Asada, a nihanga painter. As a student majoring in economics he started painting in a western style, (influenced by Shinseisaku Kyokai). In 1971 he went to Paris, where he worked for 11 years, painting and learning copperplate printing. While there he developed his own style, realistic with a surrealistic touch and feeling. In 1983 he went back to Kyoto, mentally and physically exhausted. Asada took his own life in 1997.
