Shōichi Hasegawa was born in Yaizu, Japan in 1929. He held his first exhibition
in Yaizu in 1957. At the age of 32 he went to France to study wood block print
techniques in Paris He won Young Contemporary Print Artist Award in Tokyo in 1972.
Hasegawa has exhibited in Paris, Brussels, Strasbourg and Japan. Museums in France
and the U.S. discovered a unity of oriental and occidental expression in his works.
Dualism of the orient and occident is expressed symbolically in his art.
