LOGS TO LUMBER

OR ( Why mesquite doesn't come in 8/4 x 10')

SCRAP TO GO

Typical loads of mesquite logs are 2-4 cords coming into our mill.

Logs are usually under 20" in diameter, and straight sections are usually under 6 feet long.

Our trusty LTHD30 Woodmizer turns the logs into lumber. This type of bandmill uses a thin kerf blade which reduces waste. It can handle smaller logs than traditional circular mills.

Ready for the kiln

Dry 4/4 lumber in flitch form, this is a typical select board. This board was dried in a dehumidifying kiln to 6-8%. 4/4 lumber takes 30 days to dry and is run through the rip saw to cut off the rough sides and sap wood.

We cut our lumber in 4/4, and 1/4 veneer in select grade. All lumber comes rough sawn and edged unless flitches are specifically requested. 4/4 comes in random widths from 4"-12", and random length from 2'-6'. 1/4" veneer comes in random widths from 3"-6" , and random lengths from 2'- 4 1/2 feet.

These are center cants that are left after cutting up the logs. They will be resawn into flooring blanks.

Scrap for Sale This is a load of scrap bundles containing side rips and bark cuts. The rip cuts are from kiln dried material, and the bark cuts are off the outside of the log. These bundles still have potential product in them if processed further. We would like to find a market for this type of scrap.

This picture is thrown in for fun. It is a 1920 Fay & Egan Jointer we acquired, lovingly restored by the web page author. It is in perfect working condition and runs along side new machines.
