Alvin Lee Smith,
81, went to be with the Lord on December 31st, 2006 in Columbus, Texas.
He was born on April 7th, 1925 in Marshall, Texas to Margaret Jane (Nix)
Smith and Hula Clyde Smith.
Al served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and received an
Honorable Discharge for his service there. He was an active church member
at Grace Community Church and also in the Emmaus Community and Kairos
Prison Ministry.
He was preceded in death by both parents; 2 brothers: Herman Smith and Gordon Smith;
and 1 sister: Julia Crowder.
Al is survived by his wife Patsy Sue (Green) Smith of Katy, Texas; 3 daughters:
Jean Morgan & husband Jack of Wimberley, Texas, Teresa Sims & husband James of
Grapevine, Texas, and Lynn Guy of Houston, Texas; 1 son: Daniel Smith & wife Debbie
of Zephyr, Texas; 6 grandchildren: Kevin Hooper & wife Stephanie of Austin, Texas,
Kathi Snellbaker & husband Steve of Denver, Colorado, Andy Kendrick & wife Casey of
Grand Prairie, Texas, Matthew Kendrick of Lubbock, Texas, Joshua Smith & wife Christina
Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Jessica Smith of Zephyr, Texas;
brother-in-law Robert Crowder of Diana, Texas; 2 sisters-in-law: Helen Smith of Diana,
Texas and Florine Smith of Tomball, Texas; 8 great-grandchildren;
and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007, at
Grace Community Church,
1021 Campbell Road in Houston, Texas with Pastor Rick Minett
officiating. Burial was at the Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either the Grace Community Church
Building Fund or to the Kairos Prison Program. Please call the church at 713-465-4252
for information on how to make a donation to either of these organizations.
Al will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
