Alice grew up in Dayton, Ohio and attended Wittenburg University before graduating from Ohio State University with a Masters Degree in Social Administration. When she was young Alice worked in a youth camp as a counselor and as an adult she worked in Buffalo, New York in Social Administration.
Alice married George Y. Shinowara, PhD on August 8, 1941 in White Plains and was happy to be a wife and a homemaker. She did volunteer work in Columbus and later in Nyack, New York with the Hospital League. Alice had many hobbies, including crafts, sewing, oil painting, gardening, and poetry.
Alice moved to Houston and later to Crockett, Texas after her husband died in 1972. While in Crockett she was appointed as the Volunteer Director of the Senior Citizens Center which she expanded by obtaining HUD Grants.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband George Shinowara and is survived by her daughter Nancy Shinowara of Rockville, Maryland; sister Margaret Mason of Lewesburg, Ohio; brother Andrew Waterhouse of Lewesburg, Ohio; numerous nieces & nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
A Graveside Service was held on Thursday, June 29th, 2006, at 12:00 P.M. at the Houston National Cemetery with Reverend Andrew Simcak officiating after which Alice was laid to rest with her beloved husband.
Alice will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
