She was preceded in death by her husband, Ret T/Sgt. Leon Childs, Sr.; her only son, Leon Childs, Jr.; and her brother Cecil Orange.
Born in Camden, New Jersey, Ida Mae was the 2nd oldest child of 15 children, born to George Orange, Sr. and Mary Berry, on September 6, 1936. She married Leon Childs, Sr. on March 1, 1953, who was enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.
Ida Mae was a dedicated housewife and traveled with her husband around the world until his retirement in 1970. They made their home in Rosenberg, TX until their deaths. She leaves many life-long and loving friends and family.
She is survived by her daughter Norene Childs; granddaughter Constance Childs-Vazquez, and great-granddaughters Victoria and Vivian. She also leaves her brothers and sisters, and their families: George Orange, Phyllis & Mr. Crone, Jerry & John Flowers, Theodore Orange, Leonard & Marvena Orange, Alma & Mr. Moore, Martha & Mr. Massey; Bruce Orange, Darlene Orange, Gwendolyn & Mr. Thomas, Loretta Orange, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Ida Mae was interred at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas, alongside her husband, Leon, in a private ceremony on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at 11:00 AM. For additional information, call 713-667-4282.
