Elena Antón Creek, peacefully departed this life on Monday, July 30th, 2007 in Houston, Texas. She courageously lived with Alzheimer’s for more than a decade and was surrounded by her loving family at her death. Elena was born in Hinojosa del Duque, Córdoba, Andalusia, Spain, on June 26th, 1923, and was the first of five beautiful daughters born to Consuelo Saez and Ramón Antón Garrido. She graduated from The University of Madrid with a B.A. in Languages and Theology.
Elena met Aubrey “Joe” Creek, her husband of 42 years, in Madrid, Spain. She and Joe were married on May 15th, 1962 in Spain. From there, they moved to England, Kansas, and San Antonio, Texas where she and Joe raised their family. Prior to starting her family and becoming a homemaker, Elena’s career included teaching French and Spanish, as well as working with TWA and the British Consulate.
Elena proudly became an American Citizen on February 14th, 1980. She was an active member of the Fort Sam Houston Officer’s Wives volunteer program. She was a devout Catholic and an advocate to those less fortunate throughout her life.
Elena was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey “Joe” Creek, parents: Consuelo Saez and Ramón Antón Garrido, and 2 sisters: Sr. (Sister) MariCarmen Antón and Consuelo Vizcaino Antón. She is survived by her daughter: Elena Antón Chambers and her husband Joel, 3 grandsons: Alexander Clarke Ennis, Andrew Thomas Ennis and Kyle Alexander Chambers, and 2 sisters: Elvira Antón Corcuera and Sr. MariAngeles Antón.
Memorial Services for both Elena and Joe with Monsignor Hermoso from St. John Neumann Catholic Church officiating were held on Friday, August 17th, 2007, at 12:00 P.M. in the VA Chapel at the Houston National Cemetery located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas, phone 281-447-8686.
