Elio Monariti, age 47, passed away at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas on Thursday, August 23rd, 2007, at 6:43 P.M. following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on April 20th, 1960 in the city of Trapani in Sicily, Italy to Giuseppe and Giovanna Monariti. Elio and his family came to the United States in 1967. He attended Pulaski Grade School and Osborne High School in Detroit, Michigan. He lived in Michigan for 15 years and worked at many fine restaurants; most notably Mario's Restaurant as a cook and later became a Chef. Elio and his family moved to Texas in the early 80's and opened several restaurants. Later Elio continued the career he had started when he was 12 years old.
Elio is survived by his mother, Giovanna; his brother and his wife, Tony and Billie; his sister and her husband, Cathy and Roy; his sister, Rosalia; his brother, Dominic. He is also survived by nieces, Angela, Crystal, Megan; nephews, Tony and Roy. Elio is further survived by other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Giuseppe Monariti.
