Gentry Frank Whitehurst, Sr., 73, passed away in Houston, Texas on December 26th, 2007. He was born on November 1st, 1934 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Jesse Frank Whitehurst and Louise Christine Nolan. Frank attended college in St. Louis, Missouri and Austin, Texas. On March 21st, 1959, he was married to Sandra Claire Steele at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church in Houston. After graduating from St. Edward's University in Austin, he obtained a Master's degree at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas, in 1963.

Frank was self-employed in the accounting profession and for several years was engaged as a small businessman with his sons. He had many and varied hobbies and interests, and in later years became an avid woodworker. He especially loved his family's South Texas ranch, hunting there every year. In his last years, he devoted himself to nursing his ailing wife, at the expense of his own health.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Claire Whitehurst; his parents, Jesse Frank Whitehurst and Louise Christine Nolan, and his stepmother Anna Mae Reichert Whitehurst. He is survived by three sons: Gentry Frank Whitehurst, Jr. and his partner Kenneth Morris of Houston, Joseph Paul Whitehurst of Nacogdoches, Texas, John Christopher Whitehurst of Greensboro, North Carolina; two grand-daughters, Sandra and Shelby Whitehurst of Caswell County, North Carolina; his grandson, Eric Stephen Morris of Houston; his brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth Robert and Anna Whitehurst of Corpus Christi; his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas Edward and Patsy Whitehurst of Corpus Christi; his brother and sister-in-law John Arthur and Georgeanne Whitehurst of San Antonio; and his longtime companion and caretaker, Regina Tolbert of Houston.

Funeral services for Gentry Frank Whitehurst, Sr. were held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 7th, 2008 at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church located at 4213 Mangum Road in Houston, Texas. Reverend Davila said the funeral Mass, and a reception followed in the parish auditorium.
