Joan Ashley Wiederkehr Rawson, 74, lost her battle with congestive heart failure on Monday, February 12th, 2007 at 4:45 A.M. in Houston, Texas. Joan had been struggling with congestive heart failure and diabetes for about 20 years. She had been hospitalized several times in the past year and was under the care of Mariner Health & Rehab at Woodwind Lakes in Houston, Texas before her death.
Joan lived in San Marcos, Texas at Sunrise Village and then spent a few months in Belize with her youngest daughter Claire. She then moved to Houston to live with her daughter Judith Harris before giving in to her illness. Joan was a member of the University Church of Christ in San Marcos, Texas and, upon moving to Houston, transferred her membership to the Little York Church of Christ in Houston, Texas.
Joan was preceded in death in death by her husband Jackson Grant Rawson who passed away on February 9th, 1994. They had been married for 42 years before his death and are survived by six children and their spouses: Judith Rawson Harris & Tim Harris (Tim 1949 - 1995) of Houston, Texas; Roxanne Rawson Horelica of Canyon Lake, Texas; Taylor Rawson of Rusk, Texas; Jeff Rawson of Huntsville, Texas; Ginger Rawson Neal & Pat Neal of Houston, Texas; Claire Rawson & Stephen Kelley of San Pedro, A.C., Belize, Central America. Her six grandchildren are Matthew Rawson (23) of San Marcos, Texas; Dustin DeMasters (21) of Canyon Lake, Texas; Kevin Neal (18) of Houston, Texas; Madi Allday (16) of San Pedro, A.C., Belize, C.A.; Lexi Kjorlien (14) of San Pedro, A.C., Belize, C.A.; and Jackson Chantz Rawson (10) of San Pedro, A.C., Belize, C.A. Joan is also survived by her sister Clara Parthum, brother David Wiederkehr, their families and many other relatives and friends.
Joan will be greatly missed by all of those who loved her. Everyone will miss her great generosity, especially the many volunteer hours she put in with the Evening Lions Club of San Marcos and The Red Cross of San Marcos.
