Mrs. Janey V. Strickland Graham,
86, went home to be with Jesus March 30th, 2007, following illness.
Janey was born November 28th, 1920 in a small house in Cushing, Texas,
a small town in Nacogdoches County, to Velma and Layton L. Strickland.
Janey grew up in Mauriceville, Texas and attended Mauriceville Consolidated School.
Upon graduation from high school, Janey attended Stephen F. Austin State
Teacher's College in Nacogdoches, Texas where she completed her B.S. in Home Economics.
After teaching a short time in Mauriceville, Janey moved to Dallas, Texas for
defense work where she met her beloved husband of 60 years, John (Jack) W. Graham
while he was stationed at Camp Hood (Gatesville) near Waco, Texas.
After World War II ended, she moved to Buffalo, New York and married Jack in 1947.
Together they raised a family including two sons, James and William, moving to
Tonawanda, New York, where they lived for 43 years. Janey resumed teaching Home
Economics at Cheektowaga Central High School in Cheektowaga, N.Y. and retired in 1983.
With her husband Jack, she moved to Houston, Texas in 1997 to live with their son, Bill.
Janey is survived by her husband John W. Graham (89), son James and his wife Barbara,
son William, granddaughter Lois, grandson John and wife Candy, grandson Matthew, and
great-granddaughter Lacey Nicole Graham (all of New York State), sister Valerie Maynard
and family of Lufkin, Texas, and cousins Charles and Willie Mae Martin and family of
Lufkin, Texas. Viewing was on Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007, from 10:00 A.M. until
12:00 P.M. at

Funeral Services with Pastor David Wright officiating were held at 1:30 P.M. on
Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007, in the VA Chapel at the
Houston National Cemetery located at

Janey will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
