Concepcion Garcia Guzman, was born on December 5th, 1912 in las Cruces Lagos, Guanajuato, Mexico. She immigrated to the USA near Tucson, Arizona, at around age 6 with her family. She moved to Texas shortly after the death of her father. She lived briefly in El Paso, Houston, San Diego, Yoakum, Pawnee, and Three Rivers, Texas, New Orleans, Louisiana, and expired after a period of declining health at home with family in Asheville, North Carolina.
Professionally, Concepcion worked for many years as a seamstress and tailor. During World War II she tailored uniforms for commissioned officers. However, her life’s true vocation was as a servant to the Lord and leader in His church. In 1954 she gave her life to Christ and served as a Pastor (Ordained Asembleias de Dios) and served independently for congregations in San Diego, Yoakum, Pawnee, and Kenedy, Texas. Her final congregation was Templo Betania in Three Rivers, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, retired school teacher, Salvador Torres Guzman and her parents, Buenaventura Barba and Estanislao Garcia, and sister Paz Hernandez. Those left to cherish loving memories and her faithfulness to God are her brother George Garcia, only daughter, Maria Esther (Estrada) Campos (Jesus T. Campos). Also are her four grandchildren, Adrian Campos, Houston; Olga Campos Benz (Kevin) Austin: Edna Campos (Eldon Thomas) Asheville, NC; and Leah Campos Aguirre (Joe). She is survived by seven great-grandchildre n, Elaine Molina and Larry II (Nancy) Aguirre, Jesse Goins, Sara and Jonathan Aguirre, and Corazon and Allegra Benz. Also her four great-great grandchildren, Yvonne Molina, Larry III and Andres Aguirre, and David Romero, and numerous nieces and nephews survive.
Memorial Services with Brother Abel Hernandez officiating were held in the VA Chapel at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, March 11th, 2008, at the at the Houston National Cemetery located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas, phone 281-447-8686. After the Memorial Service she was laid to rest beside her husband in Section K, Space 556 at the Houston National Cemetery.
