Doyle Gene Barber, the son of Martha Wright and J.T. Barber began his life on August 11th, 1954 in Houston Texas. Doyle grew up living in Woodstock, Alabama, and Houston, Texas.
After graduating from Bellaire High School, Doyle joined the service where he spent the next 4 years in the Army. He did his basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana and then spent the rest of his time in the service in Germany.
At the young age of 37, he had his first heart transplant. This heart lasted 13 years before making it necessary for his second heart transplant. The second new heart gave us three extra years to spend with him. Anyone who met Doyle could not believe this man had been so sick. During his short life, Doyle spent a lot of time in the hospital. But no matter how sick or in pain he was, he very seldom complained about it. He got up almost every day and did more than a lot of us even think about doing.
As everyone who ever met Doyle knows, he had the gift of gab. He loved to talk to people and could talk to anyone about anything. He never met a stranger! He was a good friend to anyone lucky enough to know him. No matter how bad he felt, he would do anything to help someone in need.
Doyle loved life! He was a fighter to the end. There were many times his doctors, family and friends, thought his life was over, but he always beat the odds. He always came home! This time he fought, but has gone to a new home where he will watch as we all continue a much emptier life without him. Doyle loved life and would want all of us to do the same.
He is survived by his wife, Patty Barber; his daughters, Tricia Mauro, Alexandra Barber and Ashley Barber; his grandchildren, Amanda Rodriguez and Adrian Barber; his mother, Martha Wright; his brother, Donald Simmons; his half-sisters, Virginia Curl and Heather Smith; his half-brothers, Mark Barber and J.T. Barber, Jr.; his adopted brother, Buddy Shephard; and many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and friends.
Memorial Services with Rev. Foster officiating will be held on Thursday, March 13th, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Chimes located on the grounds of Brookside Memorial Park at 13401 Eastex Freeway in Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers the family requests either potted plants or a donation to the charity of your choice.
As you can see, organ donations do save lives! Donor cards will be provided in the back of the Chapel for those of you who are not signed up to be an organ donor, but would like to do so. You can also get more information and print out extra donor cards by visiting OrganDonor.gov by clicking HERE.
A kind and generous man, Doyle will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
