Vera Mae Smith, 87, passed away on Friday, May 30th, 2008, in Houston, Texas. She was born on August 25th, 1920 in Bude, Mississippi to Nonie May Shoemaker and Edwin Milton Lofton, Sr.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Burnie B. Smith, Sr.; both parents, Edwin M. & Nonie Mae Lofton; 5 brothers; 3 sisters; grandson Leslie Harralson; and son-in-law Earl Street. She is survived by four children, 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nices and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Monday, June 2nd, 2008, at Aldine Funeral Chapel located at 9504 Airline Drive in Houston, Texas.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008, at Bellwood Baptist Church in Bellwood, Louisiana. The church is located approximately 9 miles south of Provencal, Louisiana on Highway 117. The casket will be open for those desiring to pay their last respects beginning at 12:00 P.M. before the service begins. The burial will take place immediately following the service at Oak Grove Cemetery in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Vera was loved by all and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
