James Andrew Carter, 81, passed away at home in Magnolia, Texas on Sunday, January 18th, 2009. He was born on March 10th, 1927 in Carthage, Texas to Lula Tidwell and Andrew Jackson Carter. Jim achieved the rank of Sergeant and retired from the U.S. Army after serving honorably for 20 years during both World War II and the Korean War. After retiring from the military, he began a new career and subsequently retired from Brinks. Jim was a volunteer for the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club as a boxing coach for over 30 years. He registered thousands of boxers over the years for boxing events and was an active member of the USA Boxing-Gulf Coast.
Military Honor Services were held at 11:15 A.M. on Thursday, January 29th, 2009, at the Houston National Cemetery located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas, phone 281-447-8686. Military Honors were rendered by the V.F.W. District #4 Ceremonial Detail. Jim's wishes were to be cremated. In lieu of flowers, donations to the USO in Jim's memory would be appreciated.
