Marker Information - Houston National Cemetery
The Houston National Cemetery is currently marking all new burial sites with upright granite markers. There are burial sites in the older sections that are marked with flat markers. Cremated remains are interred in columbarium niches.
Additional inscriptions are provided at no charge when the inscription is added at the time the marker is first ordered. The additional inscription can be anything of special sentiment to the family as long as it is not considered inappropriate. Inscriptions containing slang or in foreign languages may not be permitted. Please contact the cemetery staff directly if you have any questions regarding inscriptions.
Neither punctuation nor special symbols (such as the character '&' for the word 'and') are permitted/provided. Additional inscriptions have character limits per line and may contain ONLY characters and numbers. In many circumstances, two lines of additional inscription are permitted. Your funeral director should be able to tell you what is permitted for your particular service. The character limits for different sizes of markers are as follows:
- Upright Headstone - 15 characters per line
- Flat Marker - 27 characters per line
- Niche Cover - 13 characters per line
When counting characters, you MUST ALSO COUNT spaces between words as one character.
