Sponsoring a Resident Pig

Some pigs at the sanctuary cannot be adopted out due to the neglect or abuse they suffered at the hands of a previous owner. Although pigs aren't as intelligent or emotional as human beings, they are intelligent creatures and they do have feelings. Pigs understand abandonment, loneliness and suffering.

Some of the resident pigs were abandoned out in the desert and left to fend for themselves without food, water or shelter. Some are left at the sanctuary by unknown individuals. Others are brought from the Humane Society or veterinarians. One was even shipped to Arizona from New York!

These are the same pigs that were once pampered as prized exotic pets. Pot-bellied pigs remember the pampered lifestyle and affection they were once privy to. When a pig is abandoned or abused, it destroys the animal's ability to trust humans. These pigs need to learn how to trust and bond with people again.

Our hope is to socialize these animals enough so that they can adapt to a new owner and be put up for adoption in the future. We refer to these pot-bellied piggies as permanent residents. After all, some of these animals will remain at the sanctuary for the rest of their natural lives.

You can help us tremendously in two ways:

Provide loving sponsorship to one of our porcine friends by coming to the sanctuary to visit with a resident pig of your choice. Tender loving care is needed here and you're welcome to visit as often as you would like to, or are able to. Each animal has a unique personality and requires individual attention to stimulate them.

Commit to sponsoring a pig financially by contributing $30 per month. Your sponsorship provides for all of one pig's needs including food, shelter, routine medical care and neutering services. Your contributions are even tax deductible!

Please contact us if you have any questions, or if you are interested in sponsoring a resident pig.
