History and StaffPigs*A*Lot was established as a rescue and sanctuary for pot-bellied pigs in 1995 after the founder, Lynette Warren, started getting more and more unwanted pigs dumped on her from various sources. She had a few pigs of her own and did what any of us who love animals would do--she offered to take in an orphan. It all started out as an act of compassion toward a few homeless pigs, but soon grew into a non-profit organization with over 100 rescued pigs. The current number exceeds 150 animals. Although pigs are adopted out to suitable homes, the rate at which pot-bellied pigs are abandoned exceeds the number of successful adoptions. This is an alarming trend that only intensifies the need for more supplies and more volunteer staff. Providing care for this many pot-bellied pigs is a very daunting task and requires a great deal of time and resources. We need more volunteers willing to commit themselves to helping in a variety of ways. Pigs*A*Lot has benefited from those around the Tucson area who have volunteered to help out at the sanctuary on a regular basis. Many find this line of volunteer work very rewarding. Perhaps you'll find yourself drawn to this kind of charity as well. Read what some of our volunteers have to say!
