Volunteer Activities

As a non-profit organization, Pigs*A*Lot relies heavily on volunteers. Originally, the founder embarked on a quest to rescue a few individual pigs, but soon Lynette found herself living with over 100 pigs. The current number of pigs kept at the sanctuary exceeds 150 animals.

Although pigs are adopted out to suitable homes, the rate at which pot-bellied pigs are abandoned exceeds the number of successful adoptions. This is an alarming trend that only intensifies the need for more supplies and more volunteer staff.

Providing care for this many pot-bellied pigs is a very daunting task and requires a great deal of time and resources. There are a variety of tasks that need to be performed at the sanctuary on a regular basis. Many are required daily or weekly, while others are required on a monthly basis or as needed.

There are also activities involving the placement of pigs in adoptive homes, fundraising and educating the public on pig care. We are currently in the process of distributing information to various organizations to increase public awareness about the sanctuary and about the plight of pot-bellied pigs.

It never ceases to amaze us how many Tucsonans don't know there's a pot-bellied pig rescue and sanctuary right in their back yard! We hope to be featured at businesses that also sponsor non-profit organizations to increase public awareness and support.

We welcome people of all ages and abilities to volunteer at the sanctuary. Physical tasks range from hard physical labor to petting the pigs to socialize them. Wheelchair access is possible in most outdoor areas. Mental activities range in intensity from brainstorming over improving stategies for fundraising and placing pigs in adoptive homes to copying and distributing materials to interested parties.

Anyone with a heart for animals, especially pot-bellied pigs, can find a place to contribute here--even those who face physical or mental challenges. Please review the list below to see a list of some activities. Please contact us for more information.
