There were three participants in the astronomical show: an eclipse of the Moon; Mars appearing about 12 degrees above the moon during the eclipse, and the Comet Hale-Bopp continuing it's twice daily trek through the North Western skies. </div> <div> Although the eclipse of the moon was only 92% of the moon's diameter, it was still a head-turner nonetheless, with a dramatically darkened and reddened moon appearing to wear a white cap. Seemingly to bring attention to the eclipse, planet Mars was brilliant about 12 degrees above the moon. Not to be outdone, Comet Hale-Bopp made it's routine nightly show in the North Western sky! It was a busy evening! </div> <div> The next eclipse of the <B>moon</B> is on the night of September 16, 1997 (<B>the evening of the first day of the Feast of Tabernacles</B>). This will be a total eclipse and centered on Asia.
