Let it be seen
LET IT BE HEARD!
When starting out on a cross country trip, driving our car, we depend on road signs along the highway to keep us informed of where we are, and where we are headed. Signs are to help us find our final destination.
God often uses symbols, analogies, metaphors and allegories in describing future events, but many have gone astray because they have failed to grasp the meaning of these signs.
Genesis 1, shows us that God renewed the face of the earth and caused the earth to rotate on its axis. Creating seasons, light and darkness. "And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years" (Gen. 1:14). These signs remind us of God's overall plan. God gave man the Sabbath for a sign. "Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my Sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you. Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day He rested, and was refreshed" (Exo. 31:13, 15-17). God's Holy Days are given to us for a sign, showing us His plan for redemption for all of mankind. To most people in the world these signs are a mystery. To you and me, the mysteries in the scriptures are hidden truths, being revealed.
As we study the Word of God, we begin to see a detailed clearer picture of God's overall plan. That is, if we follow His signs. We have read in Genesis of the events that took place on the fourth day of re-creating the earth. "God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and Let them be for signs". These objects, the sun, moon and stars are God's daily reminder showing us of His overall plan. Nowhere does God say to use the earth as a sign!
Paul wrote, "If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven" (Col. 1:23). The Good News Bible says, "This gospel which has been preached to everybody in the world." The Jerusalem Bible says, "To the whole human race." Moffatt Translates it, "The gospel which you have heard has been preached to every creature." Paul said this to the church at Colossia over nineteen hundred years ago. If scripture cannot be broken, how can that be for us today. Tel-evangelists today are frustrated because they are trying to preach the gospel to every creature on earth. According to Paul, God has preached the gospel, at least the hope of the gospel, to every creature that has ever lived!
How has the gospel been preached?
We can find the answer to this question in Romans 1 where we can see an important principle. Paul reveals how God has preached the gospel to every creature, to every human being up to this point of time, and how daily God reminds us of His overall plan. "For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse" (Rom. 1:20). Paul says we can understand the spiritual, by looking at the physical. The invisible things of God can be clearly perceived by the mind with the help from God's created works. We understand a father-son relationship, how God is our Father and we are His sons and daughters. We can understand what God means when He says we are going to be a family, and how we are going to be born into His family. By understanding the physical, we understand our part of the family of God spiritually. We have seen many scriptures that say, God is our Father.
But the question arises, who is our mother?
We cannot exclude that question. Turn to Galatians 4:26, "But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all" This verse is self explanatory. Paul further explains in the book of Hebrews, "But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect" (Heb. 12:22-23). We are brothers and sister with Christ, because we have the same Father and the same mother. God has an overall spiritual plan, that is outlined on a daily basis. "I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside Me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known Me: That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside Me. I am the LORD, and there is none else. I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God Himself that formed the earth and made it; He hath established it, He created it not in vain, He formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else. I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye Me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right" (Isa. 45:5-7, 18-19). God says, look, I am proclaiming the gospel. I am not hiding Myself in a corner. What I am silently saying is not esoteric knowledge. I am in clear view for the world to see what I am saying.
Let's examine what God is telling us!
Let's start to put this mysterious puzzle together. Starting in Psalms, the 19th chapter, verse one. "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handiwork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath He set a tabernacle for the sun" (Psa. 19:1-4). Verse 1 says, "The heavens proclaim the glory of God." "The heavens speak of His handiwork" (Moffatt translation). Figuratively, that is saying something. When was the last time the heavens said something to you? I don't mean the way you would hear a voice. I mean, have you learned something from them? Did they picture something? Did they remind you of something? As you think about them, have they ever fit into the overall plan of God? Verse 2 says, "Day unto day uttereth speech." What does it say to you? "Day unto day, utters speech," it says something! If we have ears to hear, it is saying something to us. "And night unto night show knowledge." What have you learned by looking, observing and analyzing what takes place at night? Verse 3 says, "There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard." It transcends all language barriers! It does not matter whether you understand Japanese, Chinese, English, German, Hebrew or whatever language. It speaks all languages. God has said something! If people only have ears to hear and eyes to see! This is what Paul was saying when he said, "The gospel has been preached to every creature that has lived on the earth from the very beginning," symbolically and in the form of a silent witness. God has preached His gospel!! Silently, God reminds us of His Gospel, and His plan every single day! Yes, the heavens do proclaim something to us, if we have the ears to hear, and have the eyes to see. Verse 4 says, "Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world". (Moffatt translates it) "Yet their message spreads the wide world over".
What is that message?
From the very beginning this silent gospel has been preached. "And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good" (Gen. 1:14-18). Now we can begin to see how God organized and outlined the sun, moon and stars to fit into His overall plan, for a daily reminder of His silent gospel. We need to be reminded periodically of what God is continuing to do. Now we are beginning to understand how God is proclaiming His gospel. These silent witnesses are always there, if we have the eyes to see it. They are always there as a reminder of God's calendar.
Past history has demonstrated how Satan has deceived mankind into worshiping the physical sun, moon and stars, thinking they were God. Today, there are still many societies that worship the crescent moon and other objects in the universe, stargazers and astrologers, all following the Zodiac and all relying on what the stars have to say.
One of the most elementary functions as far as seeing how God proclaims His silent gospel is through His creation, understanding the spiritual by the physical. A daily reminder is the difference between light and darkness.
What does light teach us?
We must go to the Word of God for clarification! "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not" (John 1:1-5). John 3:19, "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." The light portion of a day is like the effect God has on people. We use the term "enlightened." After we understand God's truth, we are enlightened. A light goes on in our mind. A light opens our mind to something. Another definition is found in Proverbs, "For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life" (Pro. 6:23). We understand the effects of keeping God's law, it enlightens! In the millennium people are going to be enlightened. They are going to function in light (not darkness). They are going to understand the reason for living. It's finally going to dawn on them! "The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple" (Psa. 119:130). Its like a light being turned on in a dark room. That will be the effect God, and God's truth will have on people.
What does darkness symbolize?
Darkness is the exact opposite of light. We hear expressions like "they are as different as night and day." "It's as clear as black and white." Satan's way is the way of darkness. He wants to blind us to God's light and truth. He wants us to be in the dark. Paul brings this out in II Corinthians, "In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them" (II Cor. 4:4). The effect of Satan is blindness and darkness. He is the absence of light and truth, the exact opposite of the effect God has upon us. An example of this was when Paul was struck down by the great light at the sound of Christ. "And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me" (Acts 26:15-18). Paul was commissioned to go to the Gentiles with the light of God's Word and to teach them God's laws and truth.
By now we are beginning to see how the physical is a type of the spiritual. The silent symbols of light are representing the gospel every day. Light is truth, darkness is like deception.
What does the sun represent?
"The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psa. 27:1). The Eternal Jesus Christ is like the sun. "The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth for ever" (Psa. 136:8), The sun is the central body of our solar system, Christ is the central figure of Christianity and of the entire Bible!! This next verse will make it clearer. "For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly" (Psa. 84:11). This does not mean that the sun up there shining is Jesus Christ! Symbolically, yes! The sun represents Christ, it gives us light, it gives us energy, it gives us illumination. All of these elements come from God. In a sense, He is spiritual sun. With this understanding, we can see why Malachi gave Christ the title "Sun of righteousness," "But unto you that fear My name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in His wings; and ye shall go forth" (Mal. 4:2). At first glance it looks like a mis-print, thinking it should have been Son of righteousness, Jesus Christ the Son of God the Father. But it is not a mis-print, it means just what it says, He is as it says in Malachi 4:2. The rising sun is like the return of Jesus Christ, returning with all His glory. "For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and His glory shall be seen upon thee" (Isa. 60:2). "For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea" (Isa. 11:9). Someday everyone is going to be illuminated, and stand in the light. The sun is a silent witness, expressing the gospel to the world.
We should start to see the difference between light and dark. How the light is like the truth, that God gives to mankind, and how darkness is like Satan's effect on people. The sun is like Jesus Christ.
What do the stars represent in God's plan?
"And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever" (Dan. 12:3). The stars picture the saints. The sun pictures Jesus Christ. Stars are scattered over all the universe; ruling! Stars are self generating lights. They are self illuminated bodies. They are suns, like our sun, that radiate light. One day we are going to shine as the stars, be self sustaining as the Eternal is now. We are going to be members in the family of God, born spirit and scattered working throughout God's creation. We have been compared to stars throughout the Word of God! Notice, "There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory" (1 Cor. 15:40-41). This seems to point to the idea that stars are like saints, and one star will differ from another star in glory. Some stars appear much brighter and much larger than other stars! There is a lesson in this silent gospel from the stars. Some will be rewarded with more glory than others. Revelation says, "Everyone will be rewarded according to his works." "And, behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be" (Rev. 22:12). People are going to be rewarded according to their talents and how they use them. The brighter stars reflect an example of that. Like one star differs from another star in glory. "Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear" (Matt. 13:43). The stars in God's physical creation pictures sons and daughters, types of saints, who will be given rulership.
What does the moon represent?
The moon is not like the sun or stars, because it has no power or energy of itself. The moon gives no light of its own, it only reflects what the sun, Jesus Christ gives it. On the fourth day of creation, God gave three visible objects for a silent witness, in the heavens, to preach a silent message. They were the sun, moon and stars.
The Apostle John, in the book of Revelation, was given a view of 3 future events that were going to take place at the end of the six thousand and seven thousand year period. In Revelation One, John was told who the revelator was! "The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto Him, to shew unto His servants things which must shortly come to pass; and He sent and signified it by His angel unto His servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand" (Rev. 1:1-3). The Apostle John must have been excited beyond words! He was shown things that men are still trying to figure out today. Let's look at another vision John was shown. "And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars" (Rev. 12:1). Look a little closer at this verse. And there appeared a great wonder in heaven. The word wonder in Greek: 1. is a sign by which anything future is pre- announced or it indicates that the Messiah will shortly or forthwith come from heaven in visible manifestation. 2. A sign by which one is warned. 3. Signs portending remarkable events soon to happen. 4. Signs of miracles and wonders by which God authenticates the men sent by Him or by which men prove that the cause they are pleading is God's! (Thayer's Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament, numerically coded to Strong's Exhaustive Concordance #4592). Continuing with verse 1 of Revelation 12. A woman clothed with the sun. Reading all of this chapter will identify this
woman as a church. A collective body of called out ones, that are symbolically represented as stars! "There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory" (1 Cor. 15:41). People in God's church are looked upon symbolically as stars, and clothed with the sun. Continuing with verse 1, And the moon under her feet. It has been said, the moon symbolized the church. But how could that be? We just read the moon is under Her, (the church's) feet. Why would the church stand on top of the church? The moon does not represent or symbolize the church!! It is a separate sign. In Lukes letter he singles these signs out. "And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations" (Luke 21:25). God uses metaphors and analogy to represent something.
THE MOON SYMBOLIZES A PLACE OF WORSHIP! JERUSALEM!
The moon gives no light or energy of its self. It only reflects what the sun, Jesus Christ gives it. In comparing the moon with Jerusalem, it is obvious to the naked eye that the moon at one time was in distress, just as Jerusalem in Israel today is in distress. Jerusalem has no saving light or energy of its self. Isaiah, who was commissioned to cry aloud and spare not to tell the House of Jacob their sins, speaking of the future said, "The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended" (Isa. 60:19-20). "And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof" (Rev 21:23). The full moon at the Feast of Tabernacles pictures and symbolizes New Jerusalem coming out of heaven. "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God" (Rev. 21:1-3). The moon symbolizes Jerusalem! The seventh moon is in its closest orbit around the earth during the fall festivals. That is why the moon looks so big and bright.
The new moon that occurs every month is to remind us of God's calendar and the return of Jesus Christ with His bride, to set up His kingdom in Jerusalem. The full moon is symbolizing New Jerusalem coming down from heaven in all its splendor, and is at its apex during the Feast of Tabernacles every year!! "Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvelous in Mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save My people from the east country, and from the west country; And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be My people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness. Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD" (Zec. 8:6-8,22). The moon is always there to remind us of these events. The first day of every month starts with a conjunction of the sun and moon! Why? The first day of every month God shows us we are at one with Him, in conjunction, if we have eyes to see, and ears to hear. The stars represent the called out ones (the church) and the sun represents Christ and the moon represents Jerusalem, the mother of us all. "But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all" (Gal 4:26). They are both in conjunction, lined up walking together, with God the Father watching over us.
All these signs are a silent witness and a silent gospel that is being preached, to all of us until the end of the 7 thousand years. Continuing with Rev 12:1, And upon her (the church's) head a crown of twelve stars! These 12 stars represents the twelve tribes of Israel, that are spoken of in Revelation 7. "And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel" (Rev. 7:4-8).
We can not be mislead, if we let the Bible interpret the Bible. History reveals that the sun, moon and stars were worshipped in the ancient nations of the middle east. Moses commanded Israel not to be seduced into worshipping the sun, moon and stars. "And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land which ye go over to possess" (Deu. 4:14). The James Moffatt version of the Bible says, "The Eternal then, ordered me to teach you rules and regulations to be followed in the land which you are entering to possess. Beware of looking up to the sky and then as you see the whole host of heaven, the sun and moon and stars, letting yourself be allured to bend in worship of them (the objects). But the eternal took you and lifted you from the iron furnace of Egypt, to be a people of His own, as it is today" (Deu. 4:19-20, Moffatt).
