Glennville, Calif. Dec. 12, 1940
Dear Cousins Ethel1 and Lockie2:
How about a nice long letter after the Christmas rush is over?
Sure would love to hear from you. What’s all the last year’s news
from back that way?
We are having a lot of dry weather, wishing for rains. Marvin3
got in about 35 acres of crop after the nice early rains, but has had to
stop farming now because it is so dry.
We’ve all had the colds and “flu”. But are all on the go again,
tho I haven’t been off the place yet and not much out doors. Seems so
hard to get strength and to get the “frog” out of the throat.
We had an active student minister again this summer, and kept
our S.S. going until 2 wks. ago when attendance went down and so
many sick, they closed for the winter. So by radio is all the services
we have now. And I don’t run the radio much anymore - everything
has gone so military.
Mabel4 keeps busy at one thing or another. She and Carol
Bosworth5 run a girls’ camfier group. Last night she and several
others made stage curtains up at Alice Martin’s6 along with enjoying a
big turkey dinner. She sure was kept busy while I was in bed with the
“flu”, and her daddy half down.
Howard7 graduated from Redlands University in June, was
elected member of Pi Kappa Lambda, but didn’t locate a school music
teaching job, so is taking his post graduate year at Un. of Calif. at Los
Angeles this year. He and 4 other boys, good Christian young fellows,
keep house. He got home for Armistice and Thanks. weekends. But I
was bad sick with cold the first visit (George8 and Naomi9 Maddux
were with him), and Marvin was sick for the Th. weekend. I do hope
everybody can be well for his Chr. vacation home. He has 3 wks. off.
Aunt Nan Oglesby10 passed away last March. Cousin Anna11
is very lonely. She and her husband, Pat Graham12, have moved to a
house uptown in Cottage Grove, Ore.
Over at grandma Morrison’s13 old home place - a new brick
chimney has been built. The people living there had the whole yard
full of flowers this summer. It is owned by a well-to-do Bakersfield
man, but some old neighbors live there.
Please let me hear from you. I hope you are all well and have a
wonderful Christmas.
			Much love,
				Your cousin Grace.14
