Richard and Kissie Portiss Ransom
Goodspeed Publishing Co, 1887, in an article describing the settlement of Rutherford County, TN, states: "Another early settler in that vicinity was Capt. Richard Ransom, who came from North Carolina in 1810 and settled near the head of Overall Creek."

    My 3rd g-grandparents. According to his obituary he was born in North Carolina on March 31, 1797. They married in 1823. He died at his residence in Rutherford co., Tenn., on March 14, 1867. He was survived by a widow and five children. For many years he was ruling elder of the Presbyterian Church, at Jackson's Ridge where he had been a member for thirty-four years.
