Enon Primitive Baptist Church was established in 1796 when Bedford County, Tennessee, was still a part of North Carolina. Known founders of this church were JAMES T BYLER and three others named HULL, SACK, and CALL. There were twenty-eight unlisted members in August of 1821 when the church was constituted. Nine were males and nineteen were females. Elder BALAAM IZZELL (later Ezzell) appears to have been preaching at that time.Sep 1821 ELLET ROOKER and his wife STACY, received into membership by experience and baptism. Jan 1822 JOHN BYLER came forward and made recantation, was received into full fellowship again and then was given a letter of dismission. Feb 1822 WILLIAM CARD granted letter of dismissal. Evidently Brethren JOHN BYLER and WILLIAM CARD were charter members as this is the first time their names appear on the records. Jul 1822 ELIZABETH HARKEN, SAMUEL HALE and MARY HALE all joined by experience and baptism. Aug 1822 A woman named HANNAH, last name lost, joined by experience and baptism. Oct 1822 ASA WEAVER was excluded. No reason was given. SANDRA and SUSANNA HARRIS and RUTH PINKERTON joined by experience and baptism. Nov 1822 Brother WOOD is said to have been walking in adisorderly way. Action was laid over the next meeting. Dec 1822 Brother WOOD excluded for the sin of swearing & drunkenness. May 1823 LEWIS HEATH received into full fellowship of the church. JOHN WELCH & THOMAS WHEELER requested and received letters of dismission. Jun 1823 JACOB BYLER, ELIZABETH R FULKS, SARAH COOPER and NANCY MURPHY all received by experience and baptism. LARIMORE, HEATH and BYLER were appointed messengers to the association. Jul 1823 NANCY CRISP and SARAH SHARP received by experience and baptism. Aug 1823 ELIZABETH (last name bloted out) and ALLY BYLER received by experience and baptism. Sep 1823 TOTTON SUMNER received by experience and baptism and DELANY HOGAN by letter. Oct 1823 BLANCHE BERN, METILDY RUTLEGE and SUSANA DWIGGINS. Nov 1823 Major Byler's Black Boy EMMANUEL received by experience and baptism. Jan 1824 REBECCA UPENY received by experience and baptism and HENRY WEAVER joined by letter. Feb 1824 MARY JOHNS, MARY STRAITER received by experience and baptism and WILLIS SPAN by letter. The church agreed to think on the ordination of Brethren WARNER and HEATH and manifest their approbation or disapprobation at the next meeting. Mar 1824 Brother SPEARS chosen as moderator and the church agreed to ordain brethren WARNER and HEATH as deacons. Elder IZZELL and Brethren WARREN and CLARK were to be called for a presbytery to ordain them. JOSEPH RUSHING, JOHN RUSHING and Brother FAULKS were to be sent to Falling Creek Church to try to settle a dispute there. Apr 1824 Brother CLARK chosen moderator. Brother HEATHwas allowed to drop out of ordination at his own request. Brother WARNER will not be ordained until next meeting. RHODA BEAVERS was received by letter and WILLIAM UPNEY by experience. MARTHA MOTT asked for and received a letter of dismission. May 1824 Brother CRAIG chosen moderator. MARTHA LOCK was received by experience. Brother WARNER requested ordination be put off till next meeting. Jun 1824 JEMIMA KING was received into the church. Ordination of Brother WARNER put off till next meeting. The church will continue to look among themselves for a deacon Jul 1824 Brothers ANDREW CRAIG, IZZEL and MUSE were petitioned to assist in the business of ordaining Brother WARNER. JAMES TAYLOR selected for deacon. Will be ordined at next meeting. JAMES and his wife NANCY TAYLOR, CATHERINE FEIGN and MARTHA WHITE all received by letter. (this JAMES TAYLOR is the same as the one chosen to the office of deacon.) Aug 1824 ANDREW CRAIG is listed as Eldre of the church. The case of Brother WARNER was dismissed. JAMES TAYLOR was ordained as deacon by Elders ANDREW CRAIG and BALAAM IZZEL. JAMES TAYLOR and THOMPSON FULKS appointed delegates to the next association. Sep 1824 ANN JANE HEATH and NANCY BYLER received by baptism. Oct 1824 The case of the ordination of Brother Heath to the office of deacon was brought before the church. It was agreed to petition a presbytery of Elders CUNNINGHAM, MUSE, HOPWOOD, IZZEL, CONNICE and CRAIG to attend the next meeting and attend to his ordination. Aug 1825 TIMOTHY SUGG is chosen as a deacon and the male members present: LEWIS HEATH, modorator, THOMPSON FULKS, JOSEPH RUSHING, JOHN RUSHING, JOHN H. SUGG, ELLIOT RUCKER, TALTON SIMMER, WILLIAM USURY, CHARLES FAIN, TIMOTHY SUGG, ELIJAH BLACKBURN. TIMOTHY SUGG was chosen as a deacon to replace Brother TYALOR who had died. Brethren LEWIS HEATH, TIMOTHY SUGG and THOMAS FULKS were appointed delegates to the association. Oct 1825 TIMOTHY SUGG was ordained into the office of deacon. May 1826 MARY PINKERTON was excluded from the fellowship of the church after she acknowledged being with child out of wedlock. Jun 1826 Brother HEATH was taken for their preacher. Aug 1826 Excluded JOHN H. SUGG from the fellowship of the church for the sin of adultery. Appointed Brethren HEATH, FULKS and SUGG delegates to the association. WILLIAM UPNEY was appointed alternate. Oct 1826 EZEHIAL POPE, NANCY CASE and SARAH SUMMER were added to the church. WILLIAM DOLLAR was taken under the watch care of the church and at the close of service Sister REBECCA HARRIS was received by letter. Nov 1826 ELIZABETH HARKER was granted a letter of dismission. Dec 1826 JANE HEATH sent a letter to the church stating she was grieved with the church members. The church appointed a committee of bretheren SUGG, USSERY, JOSEPH RUSHING and NATHAN WHEELER to go and inquire into the affair. Jan 1827 It was reported that the affair of Sister JANE HEATH was settled in peace and love. Mar 1827 EMILIA TEAGUE was received by letter. May 1827 WILLIAM YOUNG received by letter. Jul 1827 The church received ESTER HARRIS by experience, JAMES HOWEL and MARTHY HAY by letter. Aug 1827 Brethren LEWIS HEATH, TIMOTHY SUGG and THOMPSON FULKS appointed delegates to the association. EZEHIEL POPE was alternate. JACOB BYLER was chosen clerk of the church. NANCY and HARDY POPE presented letters for membership. Sep 1827 BERRY SMITH and JANE C. COOPER received by experience and baptism. Nov 1827 REBECCA NICHOLS received by experience and faith. Dec 1827 EMANUEL, a black man, was excluded from fellowship for the sin of theft. CHARLES FAIN was received by letter and WILLIAM DOLLAR was received into fellowship. Jan 1828 MARGARET POPE received by letter. Feb 1828 INDIA FAIN, DRUSILLA NICOLS and NATHAN NICOLS were all received by letter. Mar 1828 & Apr 1828 MARTHA PUTMAN and ELIZABETH P. WOOD were added to the chruch and sister NANCY COX was dismissed by letter. May 1828 The church minutes report for the first time that a treasurer is appointed. His name is THOMPSON FAWLKS. Jun 1828 JESSE ALEXANDER and REBECCA KENER are added to the church. Jul 1828 The church appointed Brethren FULKS, POPE, SUGG, and YOUNG as alternate for the association and Brother NATHAN WHEELER is granted a letter of dismission. Oct 1828 Sisters NANCY CHRISP and ELIZABETH SUGG requested letters of dismission which were granted. Nov 1828 Brother WILLIAM TAYLOR, Sister ELIZABETH TAYLOR joined by experience. Sister ANN TATUM by letter and Brother HOLLOWILL TATUM was received by recantation for breaking off from the United Baptist. During the Sunday meeting Sister ELIZABETH WINTERS was received. Dec 1828 Letters of dismission were granted to Brother HOLLOWILL TATUM, and Sister ANN TATUM and ELIAS BENNETT was received into the church by experience. Feb 1829 ELIZABETH SMITH and ELIZABETH COOPER were received by experience. Mar 1829 Sister HANNAH HARRIS was excluded for the sin of fornication while NANCY COX, JR. and ELIZABETH WHITE were received. May 1829 Sister BARBARA, a black woman, was received by experience and ENOCH DEASON also joined at this time. Jun 1829 Three more were added. Brother JOHN WEBB, Sister MARTHA WEBB and Sister MARY, a black woman, were all received by experience. Jul 1829 Four were received from Saturday through Wednesday. They were Sister SARAH LOW, Brother DAVID LAMB, Sister HARRIETT TAYLOR and Sister ESTHER LAMB. All were received by experience. Aug 1829 Delegates FAWLKS, HEATH and NICHOLS were appointed to the association. YOUNG was appointed in case of failure. Sep 1829 Sister REBECCA DEASON was received by letter and Sister ANN JANE HEATH was excluded from fellowship for the sin of fornication. Oct 1829 Sister ELVIRA MAXWELL requested and was granted a letter of dismission. Nov 1829 A letter was granted to Brother JAMES HOWELL. Dec 1829 A committee composed of Brethren NICOL, HEATH, FAIN, FAWLKS and POPE was appointed to talk to Brother RUCKER about an unspecified charge that had been brought against him. They were to request Brother RUCKER to attend the next meeting. Brother WILLIAM UPNEY requested and was granted a letter of dismission for himself and Sister REBECCA UPNEY. Jan 1830 The committee appointed to talk to Brother RUCKER made its report and based upon that report the church agreed to exclude Brother RUCKER for the sin of drinking and fighting. Feb 1830 Sister CAPSA PATTERSON, Brother CHARLES FAIN and Sister FERDA FAIN requested and were granted letters of dismission. Aug 1830 Delegates appointed to the association were Brethren LEWIS HEATH, THOMPSON FAWLKS, JOHN WEBB, and TIMOTHY SUGG in case of failure. On the following Sunday, Sister SETTICE HAYS joined by experience. Sep 1830 Sister JANE TAYLOR and Sister MARY WESTERMAN joined by experience. Nov 1830 Brother JOHN WOOD united with the church by letter. Sister JEMIMA KING applied for and was granted a letter of dismission. Mar 1831 Brother WILLIAMSON BROWNING and his wife (not named) and Sister MARY MCKENZIE were added by letter and Sister NANCY MURPHY was dismissed by letter. Jun 1832 Sisters MARY WOODS and ELEANOR NICHOLS united with the church by experience. 13 Jul 1832 Brother TIMOTHY SUGG applied for a letter of dismission by Brother HEATH. The church granted SUGG a letter and agreed to travel for a deacon in place of Brother SUGG. Jul 1832 Friday before the fifth Lord's day in July, the church met and after worship service, entered into conference to proceed with the business of the day. The case of a deacon was taken up and Brother Nathan Nicols was appointed. It was agreed to ordain him the next day. On Saturday following, the presbytery met before worship service and ordained Brother Nichol into the office of deacon. Sisters NANCY PHILLIPS and CASSA MERCHANT were added to the church. Aug 1832 A charge was brought against Brother SUMMER and POPE, WEBB, BROWNING, FAWLKS, RUSHING, ALEXANDER and MORGAN were appointed to talk to Brother SUMMER and report to the church the next day. Sunday following, the committee made its report to the church and based on that report Brother SUMMER was excommunicated from fellowship for the sin of fornication. Sister NANCY TAYLOR was received into the church by experience andBrother MARTIN LAMB and Sister FRANCIS LAMB were received by letter. Brethren HEATH, FAWLKS,NICHOLS were appointed delegates to the association. WEBB was the alternate Oct 1832 Brother JESSE ALEXANDER applied for and received a letter of dismission. Apr 1832 Sister MARY STRONGLY asnd Brother BURCHET HESTER were received by experience and baptism. Jun 1832 Trouble was reported between Brother and Sister HEATH and Sister HOGAN. Brethren NICHOLS, WEBB, POPE, MORGAN, FULKS were appointed to endeavor to settle the difficulty. RUSHING was appointed in case of failure. Sister ASENETH HARGIS was received into the church by experience and baptism. Jul 1832 The committee made its report and the church agreed to wait with Sister HOGAN until the next meeting. On Sunday, a door was opened at the water and SARAH LAMB and NANCY RUSHING were received by experience and baptism. ASA DOUGHERTY was received by letter. Aug 1832 Based on the committee's report on the trouble between Brother and Sister HEATH and Sister HOGAN the church agreed unanimously to exclude Sister HOGAN from fellowship for the sin of hard sayings about the difficulty and not hearing the church. At this time a report was placed against Brother FAWLKS and a committee was appointed to visit with him and to see Sister BOYD. Saturday the church met and took up the case of Brother FAWLKS and Sister BOYD. The church unanimously agreed to exclude him from fellowship for the sin of intoxication. It seems by the committee's report that Sister BOYD had brought the accusation against Brother FAWLKS. Delegates appionted to the association were: Brothers HEATH, NICHOLS, WEBB and in case of failure BYLER. On Sunday following SUSANNA ROGERS was received by letter and JOHN COOPER and LEROY BLACKBURN were received by experience. Sep 1832 FENEBA FULKS was received by experience. Oct 1832 MARY, a black woman, ELIZABETH MOON, ZILPHEE DARNELL, and JAMES MERCHANT were all received by experience. Sunday following Brother WILLIAM DARNELL was received by letter. Nov 1832 Brother JOHN COOPER was appointed deacon. On Sunday following Brother WILLIAM DARNELL requested and received a letter of dismission for himself and Sister DARNELL. Jan 1833 It was agreed to call for a presbytery during the March meeting and to petition Brethren EZZEL (previously IZZEL), MCCONICO, KING, SMITH and BRAIM as a presbytery. Mar 1833 Brethren COOPER, MERCHANT and ELIJAH BLACKBURN were appointed to see Brother BERRY SMITH concerning a report of him getting drunk. On Saturday Brother COOPER was ordained into the office of deacon and Sister NANCY HARGROVE was received into the church by experience. Brother BERRY SMITH was present and made his acknowledgement. Apr 1833 Brethren HEATH, WEBB, COOPER and, in case of failure, NICOLS were appointed delegates to the Convention at Big Harpeth. SABRA HARGROVE, CYNTHIA WALKER, DALILA LITTLE, ELIZABETH BROWN and JAMES HARRIS were received by experience and EMILIA NOTT was received by letter. May 1833 It was moved and seconded that the church rescind the order of the last meeting to send Brethren HEATH, WEBB, COOPER and, in case of failure NICOLS to the Convention. The church decided to live under the old constitution. CYNTHIA ROGERS was received into the church by experience. Jul 1833 NATHAN and SUSANNA SPRINGER were received by letter and JANE PUTMAN was received by experience and baptism. ELIZABETH BROWN was given a letter of dismission. Aug 1833 MEDIAN BYLER was received by letter. ABRAM TEAGUE, NANCY COOPER, and AGNES COX were received by experience. Brethren HEATH, COOPER, NICHOLS and WEBB were appointed delegates to the association and Brother ABRAM TEAGUE applied for and was granted a letter of dismission for himself and his wife. Feb 1834 Brother SPAIN requested a letter of dismission by Brother HEATH. It was granted. Mar 1834 Brother JOHN H SUGG and his wife Sister ELIZABETH SUGG were received by letter. Jul 1834 NATHAN SPRINGER and SUSANNA SPRINGER were received by letter and JANE PUTMAN by experience and baptism. ELIZABETH BROWN was given a letter of dismission. Aug 1834 MEDIAN BYLER was received by letter while ABRAM TEAGUE, NANCY COOPER and AGNES COX were received by experience and baptism. Brethren HEATH, COOPER, NICHOLS, and WEBB were appointed delegates to the association and Brother ABRAM TEAGUE applied for and was granted a letter of dismission for himself and his wife. Feb 1834 Brother SPAIN requested a letter of dismission by Brother Heath. Request granted. Mar 1834 Brother JOHN H. SUGG and wife, Sister ELIZABETH SUGG, were received by letter. Jul 1834 Brother HEATH is chosen moderator. Brother TIMOTHY SUGG and his wife, LUCY, return to by letter. Aug 1834 Sister SUSANNAH BYLER was reeived by experience. Delegates appointed to the association were Brethren HEATH, COOPER, BYLER and NICOLS in case of failure. Brethren BYLER and RANSOM were appointed to see Brother HARRIS and request him to attend the next meedtin and give his answer to the report that was brought up against him. Sep 1834 Brother HARRIS made his appearance at the meeting and answered the report by making his acknowledgement. The church accepted his acknowledgement. Sisters SUSANNA MERCHANT and NANCY HILL applied for and were granted letters of dismission. Jan 1835 Brother ELIAS BENNETT requested and received a letter of dismission. Apr 1835 The church was not at peace because there was a difference existing between Brethren L. BLACKBURN and BERRY SMITH. A committee was appointed. Brethren RUSHING, POPE, BYLER, NOWLING, WOODS and NICHOLS were the men appointed. Sisters BEAVERS, RUCKER, WOOD, COX FAWLKS and RUSHING were also appointed because because the difference between the brethren was related to a sister in the church. The committee retired at this time to try to settle the difficulty. They returned and reported that they had settled the difficulty by excommunicating Brother BERRY SMITH for the sin of wanting to have carnal knowledge of Sister ELIZABETH BLACKBURN. The church accepted this. Jun 1835 Brother KING was chosen moderator for the conference and JAMES T BYLER was received by experience and Sister MARY BYLER by letter. Aug 1835 L HEATH, N NICHOLS, J BYLER and J COOPER were appointed delegates to the association. Sep 1835 Brother BYLER gave his clerk book into the hands of the church and requested letters of dismission for himself and his wife. Jan 1836 Brother Nichols was instructed to invite Brother JAMES HARRIS to attend the next meeting and give answer to a report concerning his being intoxicated with spirit liquors. CHARLES, a black man, belonging to JAMES HOOPER was received into the church by letter. Feb 1836 Brother JAMES HARRIS was present and the church agreed to bear with him. JOSEPH and MARY ATKINSON and JAMES M ATKINSON were received by letter. ELIZABETH, a black woman, belonging to ELLIOTT RUCKER was received by experience. May 1836 Sisters JUDITH HOOPER and RACHEL COOPER were received by letter. Jun 1836 Sister ELIZABETH PUTMAN joined by letter. Aug 1836 The following positions were filled: Brother JAMES T BYLER, Clerk. Brother HARDY POPE, treasurer. Brethren JESSE ATKERSON and JAMES T BYLER were appointed to the office of deacon. Three were received by letter: RUTHA CORBETT, SUSANNA MERCHANT and MARIAH NORMAN. LEWIS HEATH, JOHN COOPER and NATHAN NICHOLS were appointed delegates to the association with JAMES T BYLER as alternate. Sep 1836 Brethern ATKINSON and BYLER were ordained to the office of deacon by a presbytery composed of: Elder ISAIH KING, Brethren JAMES NOWLIN, JOHN WOOD and LEWIS HEATH. SISTER EMALIN TAYLOR was received by experience. Apr 1837 Brother ROBERT SIKES was received by letter. May 1837 Brother JOHN W BURGE was received by letter. Jul 1837 Sisters VIEA COVINGTON and MANERVA THOMPSON were received by experience. Aug 1837 Sister DILY JONES was received by letter on Friday and on Saturday Sister PHEBE PRIM was received by letter. Brethren L HEATH, J COOPER, and J T BYLER were appointed delegates to the association with Brother W. TAYLOR in case of failure. Oct 1837 Brother JOHN WRAY and Sister SUSY WRAY were received into the church by letter. Nov 1837 Brother LEWIS HEATH requested letters of dismission for himself and his wife. Sister DILY JONES also requested a letter of dismission. All letters were granted. Sisters ELIZABETH KIMMINS and NANCY RUCKER were received into the church by experience. Jul 1838 A committee consisting of Brethren JOHN COOPER and JAMES T BYLER was appointed to see Brother JOHN WRAY and labor with him about the charge that he had been intoxicated. Aug 1838 Brother JOHN W WRAY came forward and made full statsfaction with the church regarding the charge of intoxication. The church agreed to accept his statement. Brother JAMES HARRIS was brought before the church again for being drunk and the church agreed to exclude him from their fellowship. The church accepted Brother HARDY POPE's resignation as treasurer and appointed JESSE ATKINSON to replace him. Brethren J T BYLER, J COOPER, and J WRY were appointed delegates to the association with J ATKINSON alternate. Oct 1838 Brethren GREEN S POPLIN and RICHARD W FAIN were received by experience and Brother ROBERT SIKES requested and was granted a letter of dismission. Nov 1838 Brother LEWIS HEATH and his wife were reunited with the church by letter and he was chosen moderator. Sister MARTHA POPLIN was received by experience and baptism and Sister CYNTHIA ROGERS was granted a letter of dismission. Dec 1838 The church appointed Brethren DAVID LAMB and WILLIAM POPLIN to see Brother JOHN WRAY who had been accused of getting drunk and fighting. ELIZABETH PUTMAN was granted a letter of dismission. Jan 1839 Brother JOHN WRAY did not attend this meeting as requested. The committee reported that he denied being drunk. Brother Poplin was instructed to invite him to the next meeting. RICHARD W FAIN, JOHN W BURGE and CHARLES FAIN are to be examined for the purpose of licensing them to preach. Feb 1839 Brother JOHN BURGE was granted a letter of dismission. The case of Brother WRAY was postponed. Brother CHARLES, a black man belonging to the Widow HOOPER, was granted a letter of dismission. Mar 1839 JOHN WRAY was brought before the church and they agreed to bear with him if he would quit drinking spirit liquors only in case of sickness. JUDITH HOOPER and LETTY ATKERSON were granted letters of dismission. Apr 1839 Brother ELIJAH BLACKBURN and his wife were granted letters of dismission. The church agreed to take Brother THOMAS JOHNSON under the watch care of the church, as he requested. May 1839 Elder JEREMIAH STEPHENS visited Enon Church and he and Elder HEATH examined CHARLES and RICHARD FAIN and deemed them worthy of licensing to preach the gospel. On Saturday, Sister ALEY JONES was received by letter and Sister AGNES ALLEN was granted a letter of dismission. Jun 1839 It was reported that Sister REBECCA HARRIS had taken communion with the Methodist people and JOHN COOPER, JOSEPH RUSHING and JAMES T BYLER were appointed to see her and make a report to the church. Sister SABRA SHELLEY is granted a letter of dismission. Jul 1839 The committee reported that they had found that Sister REBECCA HARRIS had communed with the Methodist but since she was shildish and not of a proper mind, the church agreed to bear with her. Aug 1839 MARY JOHNSON and NANCY ANN BYLER are received by experience. Brethren L HEATH, R W FAIN and CHARLES FAIN were appointed delegates to the association with J COOPER as alternate. On Sunday Brother WILLIE P CHEAK and his wife MARTHA CHEAK were received by letter. Sep 1839 Brother CHARLES FAIN was chosen moderator. Sister DELIA LAMB was received by experience. The church agreed to receive Brother THOMAS JOHNSON into full fellowship. Sisters ELIZABETH READ and MARY WATERMAN were granted letters of dismission. Oct 1839 Brother JOHN COOPER and Sister HANAH COOPER and Sister SUSANAN PRESGROVE were granted letters of dismission. Nov 1839 Sister JANE ALLEN was received by experience. Dec 1839 Brother WILLIAM CARLTON was received by experience and Sister ELIZABETH HAYNES was granted a letter of dismission. Brethren WILLIAM POPLIN and WILLIS CHEAK were appointed to visit Brother and Sister JOHN HAZLEWOOD and ask them to attend the next meeting. Jan 1840 Action on HAZLEWOODS postponed . Feb 1840 The church agreed to ordain Brother RICHARD W. FAIN as a a preacher of the gospel. Sister MARTHA WHITEHEAD was received by experience. Brother HARDY POPE had been a deacon at Mt Pleasant prior to his moving his letter to Enon Church so Enon Church invited him to serve as a deacon there. The committee on Brother and Sister JOHN HAZELWOOD reported they had joined the Separate Baptists. The church then voted to remove their names from the church book. Brother JOHN W RAY was brought before the church for the sin of drinking and lying and was excluded from fellowship. Sister CYNTHIA ROGERS was received into the church. May 1840 Brother RICHARD W FAIN was ordained to preach the gospel by a presbytery formed by Elder JAMES KING, HENRY WALKER and LEWIS HEATH. Fifteen members of Enon Church were sent to Mount Pleasant to form an arm of Enon Church. They were: HARDY POPE, WILLIAM POPLIN, WILLIAM TAYLOR, YOUNG TRAIL, NANCY TAYLOR, NANCY BYLER, MARTHA WEBB, MARY JOHNSON, ELIZABETH HAINS, MARY B BYLER, JANE TAYLOR and LUCY RAY. Aug 1840 Brethren W TAYLOR, L HEATH and J T BYLER were appointed delegates to the association with J ATKINSON as alternate. Sep 1840 Brother WILLIAM TAYLOR was ordained as deacon. Brother WILLIAM TAYLOR, Elders JERIMIAH STEPHENS, NATHAM NICKLOS, and LEWIS HEATH formed the presbytery for the ordination. Oct 1840 Sister ELIZABETH READ was excluded due to the fact that she had joined the Separate Baptists. Jan 1842 Sister SUIZA HARRIS is received by letter from Concord, Lincoln County, Tennessee. May 1842 Brother JOSEPH RUSHING applied for a letter of dismission for Sister KATHERINE THOMPSON. The letter was granted. Sister ELIZABETH MARTIN WHEELER was granted a letter of dismission. Aug 1842 Brother ALLEN COOPER was received by experience. On the following Saturday the church agreed to receive Brother JAMES FINNY upon his letter of recomendtion as a deacon Sister FINNY as a deaconess. Apr 1843 Sister LLUBLIMER KEZIAH, ANISE SHORT and Brother DAVID FIELDER joined by experience. May 1843 Brother JAMES TO BYLER resigned as clerk and Brother ROBERT C DEASON was appointed in his place. Jul 1843 Brother WILLIAM JONES and Sister LYDIA JONES were received by experience. Aug 1843 Brother ALFRED S WEAVERS and Sister EMILY WEAVERS were received by experience. Oct 1843 Sisters VIRGINIA MARSHALL, MARY REDDICK, MANERVA KIMMINS, and Brother NEWTON B REDDICK were all received by experience. Brother THOMPSON FULKS, through Brother RICHARD FAIN, acknowledges his faults for which he was escommunicated. He stated he was sorry for his actions and wished to be restored to the church. The church heard the statement and restored him. He also requested and was granted a letter of dismission. Brother THOMAS and Sister PHEBE PRINCE were also granted letters of dismission. On the following Sunday Sister LUCY ANN HARRIS was received by experience. Nov 1843 The names of Sisters ASENATH HARRIS and SUSAN HARRIS were erased from the church book for joining themselves with the Presbyterians. Sisters ISABEL RAY, MARY TAYLOR, TABITHA CARY, SARAH TAYLOR and Brother CULLIN TAYLOR were added by experience. Dec 1843 Sister NANCY COX and Brother ROBERT C DEASON were granted letters of dismission. Brother DEASON resigned as clerk Brother REDDICK was appointed to replace him. Jan 1844 Sister ARTALEE PENNINGTON was granted a letter of dismission. Sister CYNTHIA ROGERS was received by letter. Feb 1844 Brother SIKES stated that his feelings had been hurt by Brother KENNER and that he could not bear with him any longer. JOHN HEATH, JACKSON NICKOLS and JOHN NORMAN gave evidence that they had heard Brother KENNER swearing and using abusive language and being intoxicated publicly. The church agreed to exclude Brother KENNER from their fellowship. Mar 1844 Sisters NANCY BROWN and MARY BROWN were received by experience. Jun 1844 Brother HEATH stated that the church would have to part with him or the Cumberland Association. Jul 1844 Because of some reports that were out on Brother JOSEPH RUSHING he sent a request by Brother WILLIAM TAYLOR that the church expell him. The chruch then appointed Brother WILLIAM TAYLOR as treasurer. Aug 1844 It was announced that the association would meet with Wilson Creek Church, Williamson County, Tennessee. Brethren J. NICKOLS, W. TAYLOR and N. B REDDICK were chosen delegates and Brother ATKINSON as alternate. Sep 1844 A letter of dismission was granted to Sister MARTHA WHITEHEAD. Dec 1844 A letter of dismission was granted to Sister Lucy Ann Harris. May 1845 Sister REBECCA W COOPER was received into the church by letter. Jul 1845 It was reported that some unpleasant reports were out on Brother THOMAS TAYLOR. Brethren J. NICKOLS and WILLIAM DEASON were appointed to visit with Brother TAYLOR and instruct him to be at the next meeting. Aug 1845 At the next meeting Brother TAYLOR acknowledged that he had been intoxicated and asked the church to forgive him, which they did. It was announced that the assiciation would meet with the church at Enon in September and Brethren JACKSON NICKOLS, WM TAYLOR and N B REDDICK were appointed delegates. FRANCES DEASON, formerly FRANCES JONES, was excluded because she had joined herself to the Missionary Baptist. Jan 1846 Sixteen members were granted a letter of dismission for the purpose of constituting a church at Mount Pleasant. They were: W S TAYLOR, J H TAYLOR, MARY TAYLOR, TABITHA CASEY, JAMES C TAYLOR, PHEBE HOGAN, SARY M TAYLOR, WM T HOGAN, SUSAN C TAYLOR, MARTHA J HOGAN, ISABEL RAY, ELIZABETH WOOLIF, E TAYLOR, RICHARD JACKSON, JOHN CREEK, and KATHERINE MOSELY. KATHERIN FAIN was also granter a letter of dismission. Mar 1846 Brother JESSE ATKINSON was appointed treasurer. May 1846 Elder HENRY WALKER, who was pastor of the church, with the help of ELDER J STEPHENS, ordained Brother JACKSON NICHOLS to the office of deacon. A letter of dismission was granted to Brother THOMAS J TAYLOR. Sister ELIZABETH HOOPER was received by experience on the following Sunday. Jun 1846 Letters of dismission were granted to Sister KIZIAH TAYLOR and Brother VINSON TAYLOR and to DELILA, a slave belonging to VINSON TAYLOR. Aug 1846 Sister DELY JONES joined by letter. The association will meet with the church at Knob Creek, Maury County, Tennessee, in September. Brethren JESSE ATKINSON, J NICHOLS and JOHN JACKSON are appointed delecates with ROBERT SIKES alternate.. Oct 1846 Sister LOUISE ADCOCK was granted a letter of dismission. Jan 1847 A charge of unchristian conduct was brought forward by Brother JESSE ATKINSON against Brother JESSEE CORZINE and his wife. The charge was that they were saying POLLY and RUTH ATKINSON were going about the community telling lies. 1847 A motion was made and seconded to exclude Brother and next Sister CORZINE. The matter was not settled and on the meeting following Sunday the church voted to hold the matter over till the next meeting. Brother HENRY WALKER would go to the church at Flat Creek and Brother OWEN would go to the Cool Spring Chruch and request their help. STEPHEN ATKINSON was appointed to notify JESSEE CORZINE and his wife of the time and place of the meeting. 1847 Brother and Sister CROZINE were not present at the next next meeting. Due to this, the church did not take action except meeting to appoint a committee to go labor with them gospely and to report to the church at the next meeting. 1847 It was reported at the next meeting by the committee that next Sister CRPZONE would not hear the committee, neither would meeting she give any satisfaction. The church moved that she stands excluded. There was no mention of JESSEE CORZINE. Brother JOHN MILTON and his wife, LEANAH, were received into the church by letter. May 1847 Sisters NANCY PRINTICE, NANCY TAYLOR, and Sister CREEK were granted letters of dismission. Aug 1847 Brethren J. NICHOLS and R. SIKES, and Elder JOHN MILTON were appointed delegates with JESSEE ATKINSON alternate. Brother STEPHEN WOOD was received by letter. Sep 1847 A committee of WILLIAM DEASON and JOHN JACKSON was appointed to visit Brother WILLIAM JACKSON in regard to the report of his joining another church. Oct 1847 The committee reported that Brother WILLIAM JACKSON had joined another church. Therefore, the church excluded Brother WILLIAM JACKSON. Nov 1847 Brother DAVID W. THOMPSON joined by experience. Feb 1848 Brother WILLIAM WHEELER brought an unspecified charge against Brother A. REEVES. Mar 1848 Brother A. REEVES was acquitted of the charge. May 1848 Sister ALSEY JONES was granted a letter of dismission. Aug 1848 Brother JAMES JACKSON was excluded because he stated he did not believe the doctrine of the Primitive Baptist. Elder JOHN MILTON, Brethern JACKSON NICHOLS, and ROBERT SIKES were appointed delegates to the association and JOHN JACKSON in casse of failure. Dec 1848 Elder HENRY WALKER was dismissed from the pastorly care of the church and Elder JOHN MILTON is called to take charge of the church as pastor. Oct(?) 1848 Brother JOEL COOPER and his wife were granted letters of dismission.
