HONOR is in a NAME!

Mead Haile b1811 and Mead Jackson b1830 are 1st cousins, once removed. The following account of the origin of their middle initials was written in 1949 by Elmer Jackson Brown, grandson of Mead Haile b1811, and supplied here by Judy Cowen-Hodges.

The name Mead seemd to be an old family name, both in the Haile and the Jackson families. There was a Mead Jackson who was a cousin to Mead Haile. Neither one of these men had a middle name. They conferred one with the other on this subject, so Mead Haile adopted "J" for his middle initial in honor of the Jackson name and family. Thereupon, Mead Jackson adopted "H" for his middle initial honoring the Haile family name. I have the signatures of both of these men showing their way of honoring each other's name and family.
This compiler has personal letters, dating from 1856 to 1891, signed by Mead J Haile b1811.
