THIS PROJECT IS COMPLETED AND THE MARKER IS LOCATED AT PLEASANT RUN BAPTIST CHURCH, 6005 PLEASANT RUN ROAD, COLLEYVILLE, TEXAS.

A formal marker dedication service was held on June 11, 2005.

PROJECT HISTORY:
During the spring of 2004 three Colleyville old-timers decided to erect a Community Civil War Veterans Memorial. On it, we planned to honor not only the men who left this area to serve in the Confederate army, but all the veterans of both armies who moved here in the years after 1865. This web site and the monument located on Pleasant Run Road at Pleasant Run Baptist Church are the results of our decision.

Using Pleasant Run Baptist Church, at the intersection of Pleasant Run Road and Shelton Drive in Colleyville, as the center of our “community,” we drew a circle with a radius of four miles. We will include all the Civil War veterans who lived, owned property, died, or were buried within this circle. Our chosen area includes the following pioneer cemeteries: White’s Chapel, Riley, Smithfield, Bedford, Parker Memorial, Witten, and Spring Garden.

ORIGINATORS OF THIS PROJECT ARE:

Doris Jo Simmons Patterson

- Doris Jo has lived on the same place now since she was a toddler, on land her grandfather bought in 1901. Her folks came to present-day Colleyville in 1879. She has been the pianist and organist at Pleasant Run Baptist Church since 1942, without a break. Three of her four great-great grandfathers were Confederate soldiers, and two of them are on our marker.

Jimmy Reynolds

- Jimmy's grandfather was the father of 10 children, 9 boys and 1 girl. He brought his family to the area in 1902 and settled the area where Ross Downs subdivision is today. From the time he was a boy Jimmy has been interested in his herritage

Michael Patterson

- Mike's ancestors were among the first settlers to arrive in this area. He has had a life long interest in his heritage and traces his ancestry to several of our pioneer families.
