I am looking for the origins of SYLVANUS BOWEN PHILPOT who was born c. 1802, Ludlow, Shropshire, England. He married Jane Tristram in 1823 in Ludlow, and they gave each of their children the middle name "Bowen" as in William Bowen, Ameila, Jane, Maryanne Bowen. William cannot be found after the 1841 census, when he was described as a shoemaker of 17. However, he was mentioned in a will c. 1901. Did he emigrate?? If anyone sees a connection, please e-mail to dlig@wildmail.com I am willing to share census and what little other info I have.

I am researching a family by the name of BOOKER, of Fredonia,Wilson County, KANSAS. It is here that I found Mary E. PHILPOT. She married Joseph E. BOOKER, in 1888, at the Society of Friends Church(aka Quaker). He worked for the railroad and this has made it very had to find them. However, many of their descendants ended up in Missouri. If you have any information along these lines, I would be grateful.Thank you.

COMMENTS: I am descended from Edward Philpott, b England about 1597? died in Charles Co MD in 1678. He was a Master Carpenter and Wheelwright, later a planter near Port Tobacco, MD. He was indentured to Mr. Mitchell, worked for de la Brooke and Gerrard. His descendants married Posey, Hawkins Tubman Smallwood, Hobart-Hubbard, Bateman, Mitchell, Barton, Smoot-Smute, etc. Some descendants left Charles Co during the Revolutionary War and went to Pittsylvania, Henry, Patrick counties VA. My ancestor left VA abt 1828 and went to Rhea Co TN. I have the following books regarding Philpotts: "Meet Your Ancestors", by Noland Hubbard Bowling; " The Philpott/Posey House" (Faulkner, MD) a manuscript by Charles Walthall available at Charles County Community College in LaPlata, MD; two of Charles and Jane Philpott's books regarding Philpotts in England and in Maryland (the are available from the LDS through a Family History Center) and a book by Walter Burgess Smith available at LDS FHCs. Also, have "A Philpott Family from Maryland to Arkansas", by Loye Roach Philpott. Like other descendants from Edward I would like to find his parentage. Was he a grandson of Henry, Mayor of Folkestone, perhaps through his son Henry who came to Jamestown, VA in 1607 in the "second ship"? Also, have some informaiton on Robert Philpott of VA and James of NH. Shirley Davis Warren (mother is a Philpott)

COMMENTS: attention PHILPOTT RESEARCHERS - Kansas City, MO
When I was doing research last year in Kansas City, MO at the Forest Hills Cemetery I was looking for my MEDLEY's. When the caretaker was assisting me we found a covered stone. I believed at that time that it was a relative but cannot make a connection. I had the cemetery services lift the stone up to ground level. The names on the stone are as follows: Bertha E Wife of
E. E. PHILPOTT
1880 - 1918
I have a photograph of the stone. If anyone recognizes this PHILPOTT, I would gladly send them the photograph.

I think Betsey's father was named WILLIAM PHILPOT (he was listed 1850 census). Betsey married HENRY HAMMOND about 1870 and they moved to Michigan were she had at least three additional children.

Park Cole was my father's mother's father. I have been trying for years to verify Betsey's parents, how/why they were in nothern NY, etc. Any assistance appreciated!
