In the Field
August 16th, 1996 was an auspicious day for me. I graduated with my
Masters in Social Work from UT-Austin, my grandfather, Tom Daggy, died and I
interviewed for what became my first professional social work gig, crisis
counselor for the CAPE Team.
I worked with the CAPE Team for two and a half years. During
that time I always thought I should write a book about my experiences.
I never did. When I moved over to the Family Preservation
Program in April of 1999 I thought again that it might be really
interesting to write down some of my experiences. I've come
to realize that I valued my free time too much to think about my
job once the day is over. I've seen some amazing things and
met some amazing people, but somebody else will have to write that
book.
Social
Work and the Web
Of all the things I've done with social work, the two that stand out most on
the World Wide Web are my papers from my Masters program at the
School of Social Work at UT-Austin and the
materials I put together to teach my web class at UT-Austin.
Note to readers: The web class resources are formatted
exactly as they were for the class in 1996. I decided to keep the original
formatting for both practical and historical purposes. The practical
reason is that some of the tables and examples get distorted when converted into
this format. The historical reason is that I believe it is important to
look and see how the web has developed. I did the best I could with the
tools I had available to me at the time. I don't want to change
that.
