We had never been to Wimberly and what a treat it was. Wonderful places to eat and lots of antique shops. Best of all, is the first Saturday of each month they have the most wonderful trades days. I mean the most wonderful stuff I have ever seen. Something for everyone.
You must arrive very early (about 6:00 a.m.) to get a good spot to park. Some people even camp overnight in order to get a good parking place.
The first thing we had was a delicious waffle with strawberries and whipped cream and a cup of coffee. Then we started our hunting for any kind of treasure.
There are usually about 400 booths with everything imaginable. I saw beautiful Amish and pottery, stained glass, bird houses, old linens, and even old milk churns. There are just too many things to list!
I bought a pair of very old Irish linen pillow cases and a beautiful shadow violet stained glass window that will go beautiful in my bedroom.
This trade day last one day only, so you don't have much time to linger if you want to see everything. The dealers start leaving about 3:00 p.m.
As we were leaving, we got an old fashion hand squeezed lemonade. It tasted great, since things had started to heat up by that time.
We got back to Blair House about 4:30 and what a relief it was to lay on a feather bed in an air-conditioned room.
We were late for high tea and scones, but I wasn't feeling too well. We had reservations at John Henry's Restaurant for 7:00 p.m. It is in Downtown Wimberly and is a very nice place to eat. We had salmon and asparagus.
This is where I made a mistake. Salmon doesn't agree with a person who already doesn't feel too well. I lost it all on our way back to Blair House.
We were going to stay a few more days and explore the countryside, and the 15 or 20 shops downtown. We left early Sunday Morning as I wasn't feeling well at all.
There was only one disappointment on this trip -- no Bluebonnets. We always go into the Hill Country this time of year to see the bluebonnets and other wild flowers, but because of the lack of rain, there were none.
Wimberly would make a nice weekend trip. It is only about 15 miles from San Marcos. Be sure to make reservations in advance. I hear this town is on "overload" during the summer.
