JUNO Free E-Mail
There is a free E-mail program out now. It is called JUNO, and claims that "E-mail was meant to be Free." I have used it and it seems to work just great.
The JUNO program is for E-mail only. It will enable you to send and receives messages to or from anyone that has a computer with a modem and telephone connection. JUNO has an 800 number for those who do not live in a town with local access.
The JUNO progam requires that you have Windows 3.1 or Windows 95. It takes 4 Meg of RAM.
The program disk is free. In fact, JUNO asks that you make a copy of the disk and pass it on to someone else.
Anyone interested in obtaining a copy of it can call the Safety Center and leave a message. We will loan you a copy of the program so you can make your own copy and a copy for a friend. Or, you can call JUNO at 1-800-654-JUNO and order a copy of the program yourself.
All you need do is put the disk in your "A" Drive. Go to Program Manager, click on FILE, and select RUN. Next, type A:SETUP and click OK. If using Windows 95, click on the START Button.
The program will install itself. Just follow the instructions. If you encounter any problems, JUNO has a toll-free techinicial support phone number at 1-800-586-6889.
The JUNO program is available for PC computers only at this time, but a Mac version of the program is supposed to be out soon.
You will receive some advertising that pays for the free program. When you install the program, it will ask you questions such as what appliances you plan to purchase in the future, how often you eat out, rent VCR tapes, go to the movies, etc. (I'm already on nearly every mailing list now, so what is one more going to hurt?)
I installed the JUNO program and am using it as a backup to my regular internet server. It seems that all servers, even the best, like any computer device, go down periodically. Some times the server either won't let you LOG ON; won't let you send mail or else won't download it to you.
I'm not pushing JUNO.com. I'm not even sure who they are or where they are, I'm just glad to have a backup.
I've been using it for a week so far, and it works every time.

The Brotherhool of Locomotive Engineers now has a webpage for its Texas Legislative Board, courtesy of Engineer Tom Keith, who works out of Broadway Yard.
On it you will find the office address, phone and FAX numbers of most of our state and national politicians. It also has their E-mail addresses when known. Take a look at it. It is impressive. The URL address of the page is:
http://www.flash.net/~tomk/

Would you like to know who a server belongs to or where it is located? Just type the following URL:
http://www.internic.net/wp/whois.html
You will get a screen that ask for a search parameters. Type the name of a server, e.g., "up.com." The result is a complete listing of Union Pacific Railroad, followed by addresses, phone numbers, Domain Name, Technical Contact, and Domain Servers.
