Fort Worth Service Unit
Leads UP in Safety

By Charles Airhart

Our service unit is leading the Union Pacific System in safety, as it has for most of the year. All of the employees are to be commended for having such a terrific awareness of their own and of their fellow employees safety.

The Fort Worth Terminal Service Unit has a cumulative index of 1.13 per 200,000 man hours worked. This compares with second place Provo which has a 1.95 rating and third place North Little Rock with a 2.39 cumulative rating.

This year we have had three (3) reportable injuries and only one (1) lost time injury. The three (3) reportable have been a head injury at Centennial, a back injury at Mineola, and a knee injury at Ney.

In 1995 through this same time frame we had sixteen (16) reportable injuries. This is a remarkable improvement, and again everyone should be very proud of his or her efforts to keep themselves and others safe.

There have been some enormous achievements in the different work groups on the service unit. Arlington has gone over two years without an injury. Mesquite has gone over three years and Dallas has gone over a year without any injuries.

Folks!, that is impressive, keep up the good work and lets make the rest of the year injury free.
