The Fall of the year is upon us and it looks like we are leaning toward an early winter. This means the Holidays and close times with friends and family. We must be doubly sure to keep alert with our mind on the business at hand at all times. Keep an eye on the weather and wear the right kind of clothes so that we can stay healthy and spend a safe and happy holiday with our loved ones.

The Fort Worth Service Unit now has a cumulative safety index of 3.44 for the first ten months of 1997. This compares to a 3.36 for the same time frame in 1996. Throughout the year we have faced many trials and tribulations.

The employees on this Service Unit have much to be proud of in their attention to the Safety Process. We have had 24 reportable injuries this year. We are not doing quite as good as we were this time last year but, remember everybody did really well last year. The newer Union Pacific (former SP) are doing exceptionally well as compared to last year.

One aspect of this process is the Service Unit safety awareness team consisting of a Manager of Rules, a Safety Manager, and a Manager of Operating Practices. This team has been efficiency testing since Nov. 3rd with anticipation of continuing indefinitely. Resources have been allocated to continue this procedure because of the accidents and collisions across the system.

Charles is a manager of operating practices at Fort Worth.
