Several years ago the Fort Worth Press newspaper ceased publication after many years. It was located on the east side of Jones Street, between Fourth and Fifth Streets. In 1988, the owner decided to demolish a large warehouse on the Fourth Street side of the building to make a parking lot.

When demolition started, they found the warehouse was built over part of an old Methodist Church building that had been erected in 1887.

It was decided to save the old structure and it was reinforced o stabilize if for reconstruction at a later date.

In 1887, the First Methodist Church had outgrown its original frame building at Fourth and Jones. A brick structure with towering steeples, an architectural triumph at the time, was constructed. In addition to the auditorium, there were two rooms in the rear for Sunday School Classes. Here are the church buildings in 1874, 1887 and 1997.
